Nightmare (Japanese: あくむ Nightmare) is a non-damaging Ghost-type move introduced in Generation II. It was TM50 in Generation II.

Effect

Nightmare only works if the target is asleep. Nightmare will reduce the target's health by one quarter of its maximum HP at the end of each turn.

The effect of Nightmare ends if the target awakens from its sleep, is cured of it, or switches out, and its effects will not continue if the Pokémon is put back to sleep. However, if the target is put to sleep in the same turn it was woken up by an item, the effects will continue.

Due to glitches, the effects of Nightmare will remain if an opponent is cured of sleep by an item in Generation II, as well as if a Pokémon cures itself with the Shed Skin Ability in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire.

Nightmare can be used as part of a Contest Spectaculars combination, with the user gaining extra three appeal points if a sleep-inducing status move (except Psycho Shift and Rest) was used in the prior turn.

If powered up by a Ghostium Z into Z-Nightmare, the user's Special Attack stat raises one stage.
