Toedscool is a Pokémon that is similar to a mushroom. It has a bulbous pink body with a yellow dot just above its eyes, and two larger yellow circles located further above on either side of its head. Toedscool has small pupils on its eyes and its lower body flares out into frayed flaps. These flaps sometimes fall off from its body, and has a chewy and delicious taste; as such, it is used in recipes such as pickles.
Toedscool has two long, thin, white legs resembling tentacles or mycelium, which it uses to run at a speed of 30 mph (50 km/h). Toedscool lives in humid forests, where it clings to tree roots. Although Toedscool physically resembles Tentacool, the two species are biologically unrelated.
Toedscool and its evolution, Toedscruel, are the only known Pokémon that can have Mycelium Might as an Ability.
Evolution
Toedscool evolves into Toedscruel.
- Toedscool is tied with Baltoy for the lowest base Attack stat of all Ground-type Pokémon.
- Toedscool, Tentacool, and their respective evolutionary lines have exactly the same base stats in the same distribution. They also have the same levels for evolution.
- In the game code of Scarlet and Violet, Toedscool and Toedscruel are referred to as "OKAKINGU" and "OKAGYARADOSU" respectively, suggesting they replaced a scrapped idea of an evolution line based on the Magikarp line.
Origin
Toedscool appears to be based on mushrooms — specifically a wood ear mushroom, known as 木耳 / キクラゲ kikurage (lit. "tree jellyfish") in Japan, hence its similarities to the jellyfish-based Tentacool. The fact that it physically resembles Tentacool may also be a reference to convergent evolution or parallel evolution, which can lead to separate organisms independently developing similar or identical characteristics and body plans.
Name origin
Toedscool may be a combination of toadstool (another name for mushroom), toed (having toes), and Tentacool.
Nonokurage may be a combination of 野 no (field), 木耳 kikurage (jelly ear), and メノクラゲ Menokurage (Tentacool).
