Trivia

Origin

Spectrier, like its counterpart Glastrier, may draw inspiration from the mythological Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, Spectrier representing the black horse of Famine given its roaming nature and purported ability to absorb life-force from living creatures. It may also be based on the black-colored knight chess piece.

Alternatively, Spectrier may be based on the kelpie, a shapeshifting water spirit from Scottish legends – the Crown Tundra is based on Scotland. The kelpie is often described as a black horse that inhabits bodies of water and preys on people who get near it, similar to Spectrier's appearance and its ability to forcibly separate souls.

Name origin

Spectrier may be a combination of spectre and destrier, a type of medieval war horse.

Reisuposu may be a combination of wraith, 霊 rei (spirit), and ἵππος híppos (Greek for horse) or horse.
