A Marquis (Japanese: マーキス Marquis) is a type of Pokémon Trainer that debuted in the Battle Chateau of the Generation VI games Pokémon X and Y. The male player character can become a Marquis after defeating enough Trainers in the Battle Chateau and, along with its female counterpart class Marchioness, is the next noble rank held by both him and trainers of the Battle Chateau after Earl.

Opponent Marquises that are not also Gym Leaders maintain parties of two Pokémon, which are at least level 35 if the player has not issued a Writ of Challenge. Before the player advances to the Duke or Duchess rank or defeats the Champion, the Marquises that are also Gym Leaders all maintain parties of two Pokémon, which are at least level 40 if the player has not issued a Writ of Challenge. After the player advances to the next rank or defeats the Champion, their parties increase to level 50 if the player has not issued a Writ of Challenge.

Appearance

Marquises can appear as a Rich Boy, a Monsieur, a Butler or any of the male Gym Leaders of Kalos.
