Flapple appears to be based on a worm, and may be based on the concept of a worm burrowing inside of an apple. Considering its Dragon typing, it may be a pun on wyrm. Its Gigantamax form appears to be based on a caramel apple.
Name origin
Flapple may be a combination of flap and apple.
Appuryū may be a combination of apple and 竜 ryū (dragon).
