Trivia
Origin
Flapple itself appears to be based on a worm, and is also based on the concept of a worm burrowing inside of an apple. Its dragon-like aspects may also come from "wyrm" - another term for dragon, which makes sense, as Flapple is a Dragon-type.
Name origin
Flapple may be a combination of flap and apple.
Appuryū may be a combination of apple and 竜 ryū (dragon).
