X (Japanese: エックス X) is a main character in the manga series Pokémon Adventures.
Character
X is a former Pokémon Trainer who was shown to be very strong, even as a small child. However, the pressure he got from the paparazzi eventually got to him, which caused him to become a shut-in who refuses to leave his house despite his friends' protests. From his years of being secluded alone from society and his peers, he is given the title of "Loner" (籠る者 Loner).
History
X is first seen winning a Kalos Junior Tournament as a small child. While his friends come to celebrate his victory, they are immediately crowded on by the press, who ask if X will become a Gym Leader or even an Elite Four member. Years later, X has become a shut-in and refuses to leave his room. Despite his friends' daily efforts to get him outside, he refuses because of his fear of having the public's eye on him. Suddenly, the Legendary Pokémon Xerneas and Yveltal appear and begin destroying Vaniville Town in their clash against each other. Y tries to warn X about what is going on, but he refuses to listen to her because the reporters Alexa and Viola are outside recording the commotion.
X is soon attacked by Team Flare, who are after the Mega Ring on his wrist. Y and Kanga try to save X, only to be easily swatted away. Suddenly, Li'l Kanga reacts to X's Mega Ring, which allows her to evolve into Mega Kangaskhan and easily defeat the villains, forcing them to retreat. After Xerneas and Yveltal had left, the five group together in the ruins of their destroyed town. They decide that with their homes gone and certain things they need to accomplish, they all need to head off. Although X does not want to go, Y tells him that he has no choice now that he's homeless. Y forces X into a new change of clothes and has him sleep in a tent on her Rhyhorn since he refuses to move otherwise. With that, the five friends set off together.
After arriving in Aquacorde Town, the others stay at an inn while X sleeps outside in the tent. Unbeknownst to them, the inn was actually a trap set up by Team Flare, which led to Y, Trevor, Shauna, and Tierno being trapped inside while Aliana and Mable attempt to capture Li'l Kanga when X isn't looking. Y manages to escape and informs X of what is happening to Li'l Kanga. Angered, X attempts to have Li'l Kanga Mega Evolve again, only for it to fail. Instead, X uses Chespin to battle Team Flare, and succeeds in rescuing Li'l Kanga, defeating Aliana and Mable, and rescuing the rest of X's friends from the inn.
The group soon arrives in Santalune City, where they meet up with Viola again. Viola reveals that she is the Santalune Gym Leader and offers to help the group by offering sanctuary at her Gym. Although Y said to not trust adults, the group decides to trust Viola's word, which angers Shauna into running away for going against what they said earlier. Later, X battles Viola at the Gym while Y, Trevor, and Tierno investigate the photos Viola took at Vaniville Town. There, X reveals that he obtained his Mega Ring from Gurkinn, the Mega Evolution guru, as a child. They are soon attacked by Celosia of Team Flare, who had Shauna possessed by a Honedge and kept under her control. Celosia uses Shauna to steal Kanga's Kangaskhanite and knocks Viola unconscious. Celosia attempts to escape, forcing X to pursue her. As he chases her down, X is approached by Korrina, who has her Lucario Mega Evolve. With Korrina's help, Celosia is distracted long enough for X to retrieve the Kangaskhanite and Mega Evolve Li'l Kanga. Together, Li'l Kanga and Lucario defeat Celosia's Aegislash, forcing Celosia to escape since she realizes that two Mega-Evolved Pokémon are too much for her to beat. Later, when the group celebrates their victory, Korrina is shocked to find that Gurkinn gave X his Mega Ring without a proper Successor Ceremony like several others have. When X expresses a lack of interest in doing the ceremony, Korrina gets angry and leaves in a huff without telling them more about Mega Evolution.
After arriving in Route 4, the group comes upon a Charmander sleeping on the flowerbeds. After Charmander accidentally sets the flowers on fire with its tail, Froakie puts the flames out with its Frubbbles. The group realizes that the Charmander must belong to Professor Sycamore due to its familiarity with Chespin and Froakie. They take the Charmander with them, only for a masked Sina and Dexio to take it from them an accuse X and his friends to be thieves. With his Roller Skates, Tierno retrieves Charmander and clears up the misunderstanding. Once they arrive at Lumiose City, they are greeted by Professor Sycamore, who thanks them for returning Charmander to him. Sycamore is shocked to find that X has yet to accept Chespin on to his team despite the time they have spent together. X explains that he refuses to because he does not want Chespin to get caught up in the repeated attacks from Team Flare. Sycamore decides to change X's mind by challenging him to a battle, but forces X to only use Chespin against his Charmander. Although reluctant, X accepts, but expresses little interest in commanding Chespin to attack, thus giving Chespin the disadvantage. Despite this, Chespin refuses to back down, which impresses X to give it a command. They end up losing the battle, but Chespin's determination impresses X enough to take it on his team and name it Marisso. Much to Professor Sycamore's surprise, X also expresses interest in training Charmander, which he names Salamè. Before they can continue, X begins to worry about his friends and travels with Sycamore to meet up with them again.
Sycamore parts with the group to head to the Prism Tower for an interview. X's friends realize that they haven't learned anything from the videos Trevor sent to Sycamore, so they decide to wait for him at the bottom of the Prism Tower. X, sensing trouble inside the Tower, leads the group up the Tower, not knowing that Sycamore had just left. They encounter Alexa being attacked by her editor-in-chief's Pangoro. X tells his friends to evacuate the Tower with Alexa while he deals with the editor-in-chief, who was taking Alexa's Helioptile hostage. After successfully defeating the editor-in-chief and rejoining his friends, X tells them all that Sycamore told him about the videos he received from Trevor. The group then leaves Lumiose City, only to be pursued by an Electrike that escaped from Prism Tower.
On Route 5, the Electrike that followed them sneaks on Y while she's changing and steals her clothes. After following and defeating the Electrike, X realizes that it was simply trying to lead them to an item in a tree. Y refuses to help, but the Electrike forces her to after evolving into a Manectric while sitting on her head. They are soon greeted by Clemont, who offers to help find what the Manectric is looking for with his scanner. With Clemont's invention, they find the item, a Mega Stone that can allow Manectric to Mega Evolve. A Team Flare Grunt that is also after the Mega Stone attacks the group by having his Tyrunt bite the tree to make it fall down. X pursues after the Grunt with Trevor and the Manectric following after. The Grunt leads them to Parfum Palace, where he steals Kanga's Kangaskhanite after tricking them through the maze. X teams up with Manectric to battle the Grunt and decides to keep it and name it Élec. With Trevor's help, X and Élec retrieve both Mega Stones. X uses the Manectite to Mega Evolve Élec into a Mega Manectric and together, they defeat the Grunt and send him running off. The Grunt drops a clipboard containing the names of several Mega Stones and the corresponding Pokémon that can Mega Evolve with them. After the returning, X and Trevor meet Cassius, who helped Y, Shauna, and Tierno battle the Grunt's other Pokémon.
Cassius offers to take the group to Cyllage City, where Clemont said he saw Y's mother being taken away by Team Flare Grunts along with Grant. The group travels to Cyllage City via Cassius's van, and later in a helicopter Cassius obtained from the Battle Chateau. As they approach the city, a group of several Sky Trainers attack and begin damaging the helicopter. Y battles the leader of the Sky Trainers, which is a classmate from her Sky Trainer school. X and the others realize that the Sky Trainers are being controlled by Team Flare. With Shauna's help, X locates the Aegislash that is controlling the Sky Trainers and defeats it with Élec. Although victorious, the helicopter blade snaps off and hits Y on her helmet, knocking her to the ground below. X immediately attempts to jump out and save her, but is stopped by Trevor. The damage forces Cassius to make an emergency landing in Cyllage. X figures that Y landed on Route 9, and decides to go with his friends to find her. As Cassius argues with Grant over the damage to Cycling Road caused by the destruction of the helicopter, X and his friends leave Cassius behind. They decide that as soon as they find Y, they should confront Team Flare at their base of operations.
The group travels to where Y crash landed but are unable to find her. X notices a trail of Frubbles left behind by Croaky leading into a forest. They follow the trail into the forest, where they find Y and regroup with her. Y informs everyone that she overheard Celosia and Malva discuss a plan to use people from Vaniville Town they kidnapped as forced labor to take a giant tree that is actually the dormant form of Xerneas back to Team Flare's headquarters. She reveals that Team Flare is aiming to use Xerneas to power a machine known as the ultimate weapon. The group decides to wait for Team Flare to return so that they may launch a sneak attack and rescue the townspeople.
Later, Celosia returns with a group of Vaniville townspeople under the control of her Aegislash. When Y notices her mother in the crowd of captured townspeople, she leaps in to attack, but the damage her Sky Suit took when she fell earlier causes her to plummet to the ground. Alerted to her presence, Celosia attempts to attack Y, but is stopped by X. X attempts to Mega Evolve Li'l Kanga and Élec, but it ends in failure. Essentia then arrives and uses her Trevenant to manipulate the forest's plants to capture X and his friends. Celosia attempts to kill X, but is stopped by the timely arrival of Korrina, Diantha, and Gurkinn.
Korrina and Diantha battle Team Flare while Gurkinn stays behind to free X and his friends from their bindings. Gurkinn apologizes to X for not informing him about Mega Evolution in their first meeting and reveals that only one Pokémon can Mega Evolve at a time. Gurkinn also decides to give X his disobedient Gengar, which also has the ability to Mega Evolve. X agrees and names the Gengar Garma. By Mega Evolving Garma, X is able to defeat Essentia, forcing her to flee. X, Trevor, and Tierno go to help Korrina while Y and Shauna stay behind to free Diantha from the Magic Room Malva trapped her in. When X's group arrives at Korrina's location, they find that she managed to free the townspeople from Celosia's control, but was unable to stop Xerneas from being taken, was defeated, and had her Key Stone taken.
The unconscious townspeople and Korrina are taken to a hospital in Laverre City. The shock of what happened to Korrina leads X into shutting himself inside the base of a large tree. Angered at what happened to Korrina, X blames himself to point where he considers himself to be the one who took Korrina's Key Stone. Trevor and a wild Klefki that Grace befriended attempt to comfort X, but he refuses their help as he did in the past. A voice begins speaking to X telepathically and urges him to not keep hidden from the world and instead look towards fixing his mistake. As the voice fades, X realizes that it belonged to Xerneas. The Klefki hands X a pair of glasses. X notices the glasses belong to Clemont and are currently showing an image of Geosenge Town. X realizes that Clemont must be in Geosenge Town, which must be where the Team Flare Secret HQ is located. Taking Xerneas's advice, X calls him team and sets out to stop Team Flare at their headquarters.
That night, X arrives at the Team Flare Secret HQ. He is startled by the appearance of Emma, who had followed him ever since her Mimi snuck into Kanga's pouch. Emma decides to assist X in taking down Team Flare and helps clear a path to the HQ's entrance. Once they enter the building, X is separated from Emma after stepping onto a warp pad. X is teleported to the ultimate weapon's control room, where he meets Lysandre, the leader of Team Flare. X battles Lysandre to prevent the ultimate weapon from being activated. Lysandre reveals that he has Korrina's Key Stone and uses it to Mega Evolve his Gyarados. As they battle, X uses Élec to drain the weapon of its power, causing Xerneas to turn back into its normal form.
When X's friends discover X's solo mission into Team Flare's headquarters, they leave with the Gym Leaders to assist X. When they arrive, the ultimate weapon is already in process of being activated. Y and the Gym Leaders attempt to keep the weapon from blooming, but struggles due to the interference of Bryony. Trevor, Tierno, and Shauna infiltrate the Secret HQ to find X. As they head down, they meet with Clemont again and meet AZ, a mysterious man with connections to the ultimate weapon. Trevor's group frees AZ from his cage and enter the ultimate weapon's control room, only to find X has already been defeated. Trevor's group attempts to remove the ultimate weapon's key to prevent it from firing, but are unable to remove it in time before the weapon fires on the Kalos region.
Despite this, the combined efforts of X, Y, their friends, and the Gym Leaders managed to weak the ultimate weapon enough that no innocent lives are taken. AZ puts X, Trevor, Tierno, and Shauna onto Xerneas's back and has it take them back to the surface while he stays behind to confront a furious Lysandre himself. Once they meet with Y again, X reveals that Xerneas wishes to be captured by a human, meaning that it is on their side. Y decides to take Xerneas for herself and names it Xerxer. Y has Xerxer begin to destroy the ultimate weapon, but is interrupted by the arrival of Malva, who reveals that she managed to capture Yveltal, which was sleeping in the ground underneath Xerxer's tree. Malva proceeds to attack the heroes, but is stopped by Xerosic, who states that Lysandre ordered a ceasefire since Xerneas and Yveltal's evenly matched power will only lead to an endless war. Xerxer confirms this and decides to retreat by flying away with everyone.
The group heads to the Lost Hotel, where they rest and eat a meal cooked by Siebold. Despite Y obtaining Xerxer, Ramos reveals that Team Flare blamed X, his friends, and the Gym Leaders for the destruction caused by the ultimate weapon, meaning they have to hide from the public at the moment. After getting a shorter haircut from Shauna, Y is given a Mega Ring from Gurkinn, thus becoming a Mega Evolution Successor. Y heads out with X to find a Pokémon capable of Mega Evolution to add to her team. As they search, Y chastises X for ignoring her rules and going off to stop Team Flare alone, but decides not to stay angry at him.
On Route 15, X and his friends search for a wild Pinsir to add to X's team. During their search, X and his friends come upon the motionless body of a wild Scyther, which is being guarded by a wild Pinsir. They are approached by Blue, a Pokédex holder from the Kanto region, who explains that the Scyther had its life energy drained by some force, but will eventually return to normal if its willpower is strong enough. After X manages to get the Pinsir to join his team, the group is called by Professor Sycamore, who requests that they travel to Anistar City so that he may aid them in their quest.
After going their separate ways from Blue, X and his friends travel to Anistar City while Blue's Pokémon guard them along the way. Upon arriving, the group find Sycamore under attack by a group of Hawlucha. X and Y help save the professor and battle against the Hawlucha. Sycamore reveals that he discovered that the effect of the ultimate weapon altered the Key Stones in X's Mega Ring, which prevents Team Flare from tracking its signal anymore. In addition, the Mega Rings that X and Y possess now have the ability to track Mega Stones, but only from 8 PM to 9 PM. Realizing that the Hawlucha belonged to a Trainer, X decides to stay behind and protect the professor while Y and the others go to find the Mega Stones for Solsol and Rute, only for Shauna and Tierno to offer to do it instead.
After Tierno and Shauna head off to find Mega Stones, Y finds Essentia hiding behind the Anistar Sundial, which leads into a battle on the Anistar rooftops. During their clash, Essentia attempts to use her suit's Poké Ball Jack function to hack into Xerxer's Poké Ball and take control of it. Y eventually gets separated from Essentia and wakes up in a Pokémon Center, where she takes the opportunity to heal her Pokémon, completely unaware that the Nurse is Essentia in disguise. While she is distracted, Essentia knocks Y unconscious and takes Xerxer's Poké Ball. Using the Expansion Suit's Sneaking function, Essentia attempts to meet with X while disguised as Y. X quickly sees through this ruse and has Rute damage Essentia's helmet with its horns, breaking the camouflage. Immediately afterward, Y arrives, having been found by Tierno, Shauna, and Trevor.
Tierno and Shauna return X and Y their Mega Rings and give them the Mega Stones they managed to find. With that, X Mega Evolves Rute into Mega Pinsir while Y Mega Evolves Solsol into Mega Absol. As they battle, X and Y notice that Essentia doesn't have full control over Xerxer. They take advantage of this weakness to damage Essentia's suit and loosen her control over Xerxer even further. The battle is interrupted by the arrival of Zygarde, which begins attacking everyone. Essentia decides to shift her attention to Zygarde and attempts to capture it while it charges itself with the power of nature, leaving it completely defenseless while it does so. Although this causes her to lose control of Xerxer, Essentia manages to successfully capture Zygarde before making her escape. Shortly afterward, Professor Sycamore receives a call from Sina and Dexio, who inform him that they managed to capture a Team Flare Grunt at Lysandre Café. After interrogating the Grunt, Sina and Dexio reveal that Team Flare has gone into hiding at the Pokémon Village.
At Route 18, X and his friends rest for the night to prepare for their trip to the Pokémon Village. The next day, X and his friends prepare to set out to the village and put an end to Team Flare once and for all. X notes that ever since their stay at Anistar City, Salamè had become reclusive and refuses to leave its Poké Ball. With assistance from the Kalos Elite Four, X, his friends, Blue, and Diantha all head off to the Pokémon Village. On their way, the group is attacked by Xerosic, who uses his Malamar's Hypnosis to put everyone to sleep. Having evolved into a Greninja and sensing the attack beforehand, Croaky avoids being put to sleep and teams up with X, who also managed to avoid being affected. Although they succeed in stopping Malamar once, it quickly gets back up and exploits X's lack of knowledge on how to use Croaky effectively to put Croaky to sleep.
With no else awake, X is forced to use Salamè, only for it to refuse to come out and fight. Malamar uses this distraction to attack X and knock Salamè's Poké Ball away. Just as Malamar attacks the Poké Ball, Marisso steps in to save Salamè from Malamar's attacks, evolving into Chesnaught in the process. Though Marisso is injured from Malmar's relentless attacks, it gives Salamè the confidence to come out and fight. X reveals that Salamè became scared that it wouldn't be able to handle the power of Mega Evolution when it evolved into a Charizard, and seeing everyone's Mega Stones shine brightly at Anistar City caused it to become depressed. Although Xerosic claims that Charizard doesn't possess a Mega Evolved form, Salamè blows on its tail to reveal that it had a Mega Stone there the entire time.
Blue soon wakes up and reveals that he is a Mega Evolution Successor as well, and his Charizard possesses a Charizardite that is a different color from Salamè's. X and Blue decide to stay behind and fight Xerosic while telling Y and the others to go ahead to the village. With their Key Stones, X and Blue Mega Evolve Pokémon into Mega Charizard X for X and Mega Charizard Y for Blue. The combined might of both Mega-Evolved Pokémon easily defeats Xerosic. Afterward, X and Blue take to the skies in order to help their friends, who had begun battling the other Team Flare scientists. X finds Trevor in battle with Bryony, who easily outclasses him in battle. With Salamè's power, X easily defeats Bryony's Bisharp and sends it flying. Afterward, Y and Trevor tell X and Blue to go to the village without them as they wish to stay behind to help Tierno and Shauna.
X and Blue take off once again and arrive at the Pokémon Village, only to find Lysandre battling against Mewtwo. Lysandre manipulates Mewtwo into battling X and Blue so that it may be weakened enough to be captured. Despite having battled together in the past, Blue's attempt to get Mewtwo to recognize him ends in failure. During the battle, Mewtwo attacks X and Blue, but redirects the attack towards Lysandre to hit him instead. Mewtwo then proceeds to Mega Evolve into Mega Mewtwo Y. As Mewtwo battles Lysandre's Pokémon, Blue notices another person in the distance who was responsible for Mega Evolving Mewtwo. Lysandre retaliates by activating a remote control device to summon Essentia and Zygarde from underground. Lysandre reveals that he had the limiters on Essentia's suit removed, allowing him to fully control her as if she were a puppet. By using a speaker system, Lysandre can speak into the device and have Essentia repeat his words so that he can command Zygarde to attack.
The person who Mega Evolved Mewtwo, Blaine, reveals himself and proceeds to assist X and Blue. Lysandre retaliates by having Zygarde attack everyone with Land's Wrath, causing heavy damage. The damage dealt to Blaine forces Mewtwo to revert back to its normal state, but Blaine counters by using his connection with Mewtwo to have it Mega Evolve to Mega Mewtwo X. With Zygarde distracted, X takes the chance to attack the defenseless Essentia in order to sever Lysandre's connection to Zygarde. Although successful in shattering her helmet, X is shocked to find that Emma was actually Essentia the entire time. X attempts to help by removing the Expansion Suit, but Emma stops him. Emma reveals that despite being under hypnosis, she is aware of her actions while wearing the suit. Emma explains that due to her life at home and on the streets, she felt unsafe, but wearing the Expansion Suit helped Emma feel like she could do anything. When Emma asks if defeating Team Flare will make people start treating her well, X is left speechless.
Lysandre continues ordering Emma to have Zygarde attack. Emma does so and uses Zygarde to defeat Blaine and Mewtwo. X asks Emma to stop, but she refuses as it is her job and she wishes to get paid so she can help Cassius. X gives Emma a speech about how his journey made him realize that despite what happened in the past, he still has people he can trust, even if he only just met them. Cassius soon arrives and tells Emma that she doesn't need to work with Team Flare and has his Gourgeist destroy Lysandre's controller, breaking his connection to Zygarde. Now freed, Emma attempts to have Zygarde attack Lysandre, only for his Gyarados to attack her. Lysandre takes Zygarde's Poké Ball, thus making Zygarde his to command. Lysandre has Zygarde attack with another Land's Wrath, causing everyone to be sent flying. Y soon arrives and attacks Lysandre with Solsol and takes the Mega Ring containing Korrina's Key Stone away from him. Despite losing his Mega Ring, Lysandre is unfazed and proceeds to make a speech to the entire Kalos region and tells them about his plan to destroy everything with the ultimate weapon.
After regrouping with Y, X notices that Blue had found Diantha's Mega Charm after she dropped it earlier. Remembering Blue's words that the Key Stone may be the key to winning the battle, X removes Blue's Key Stone and asks Y for her Mega Ring. With the Key Stones from his Mega Ring, Y's Mega Ring, Diantha's Mega Charm, Blue's ring, and Lysandre's Mega Ring, X activates Mega Evolution for his entire team, sans Marisso. All of X's Mega-Evolved Pokémon then set out to fight against Zygarde. Due to the mental link caused by a Trainer and their Pokémon when Mega Evolution is performed, X's mind is severely strained, leaving him unable to properly focus on anything other than Zygarde. Lysandre attempts to use this to attack X with his Pokémon, but they are quickly defeated by Blue and Blaine, who managed to get back up.
As X's team continue their attack, everyone notices that Zygarde appears to be breaking apart every time it is attacked, which helps them realize that Zygarde may be a Pokémon formed of several different smaller Pokémon. The group gets a telepathic message from Xerxer, who inform them that it and Yveltal are returning to their dormant tree and cocoon forms. By doing so, Zygarde will have no reason to remain in Kalos, as its purpose is to subdue Xerneas and Yveltal to protect the ecosystem. Once Xerxer and Yveltal fully revert, X commands his team to do one last simultaneous attack, which fully separates Zygarde into its Cells. Lysandre, who was standing on top of Zygarde, begins to fall onto the sharp rubble below. Malva attempts to rescue Lysandre, but both end up falling down onto the rubble. When X goes to check on the two, he finds an unconscious Malva on top of Lysandre, who asks why the ultimate weapon has not been fired as he lays in a puddle of blood.
With Team Flare defeated, X and his friends say their farewells to their allies and return to Lumiose City, only to find the citizens going about their daily lives as if nothing had happened. Although Shauna is annoyed by this, X points out that if Vaniville wasn't destroyed, they would also act as if nothing happened. The group is soon approached by AZ, who asks how they plan to go about their lives from now on. AZ reveals to everyone that he was the one who created the ultimate weapon, and that he retrieved the weapon's key from the Team Flare Secret HQ. Due to how X and his friends were treated despite their hard work, AZ suggests that Team Flare's ambitions weren't wrong and goes to activate the ultimate weapon once again. X and his friends attempt to stop AZ, but he retaliates with his Golurk. When Y attempts to reason with AZ, she is left open for Golurk to shoot her in its cannon form. X has Marisso attack Golurk in order to save Y, but AZ jumps in front of the attack. AZ survives the attack, but the ultimate weapon's key is destroyed in the process. Y realizes that the entire battle was nothing but an act in order to prevent them from taking the path that led to Lysandre using the ultimate weapon. With his mind at ease, AZ thanks the Vaniville children for their help, but is shocked by the return of the Floette that had left him 3,000 years ago.
After saying their goodbyes to AZ, the group is greeted by Professor Sycamore, the Kalos Gym Leaders, Alexa, Bonnie, and Yvette, who congratulate X and his friends for their victory. Professor Sycamore proposes to have a party and parade as a celebration for their heroics, but Trevor declines, as he and his friends have more important things to do. Afterward, Trevor and his friends return to Vaniville Town, where they witness Y reunite with her mother.
Three months later, X's house has been fully rebuilt. He dismantles the tent on Rhyrhy's back and thanks it for allowing him to ride on it during the course of their journey. X reveals to Y that he plans on going to Shalour City in order to officially become a Mega Evolution Successor. Just before leaving, X thanks Y, but is surprised when she tells him to stop whispering, causing X to blush.
Pokémon
With the exception of Kanga and Li'l Kanga's nicknames, which are based on the English name of Kangaskhan, X gives his Pokémon nicknames based on the Pokémon's French name. Garma is another exception as his name is a combination on Gengar's Japanese and French names.
