Iono's Bellibolt (Japanese: ナンジャモのハラバリー Nanjyamo's Harabarie) is Iono's first known Pokémon in Pokémon Horizons: The Series, and one of her signature Pokémon in the games.

History

Electromorphosis activated

Bellibolt debuted in Someone We Can't See! Whosawhatsit?, appearing behind its Trainer when Dot called Iono to request her help in locating her friend Liko, who had gone missing in Levincia. In The Plan to Capture Rayquaza, Bellibolt appeared alongside Iono hosting an edition of Iono Zone when they were interrupted by the appearance of Black Rayquaza in the skies.

In HZ050, Bellibolt battled Dot's Quaxly as part of Dot's Terastal Training test. Quaxly easily dodged Bellibolt's Spark with his superior agility and hit it with Water Gun, but Bellibolt's Electromorphosis Ability came into play, which powered up its following Discharge, badly hitting Quaxly when he was unable to dodge it. Quaxly tried to attack Bellibolt further with Water Gun but then failed to stop it healing itself with Slack Off. Bellibolt's continued to dominate the battle until Quaxly calmed himself down by dancing in the puddles on the battlefield to build focus and momentum. Dot then Terastallized Quaxly for the first time into a Water-type. Quaxly hit Bellibolt with Low Kick, catching Iono off guard by not utilizing his new Terastalizsed power before learning a new move Liquidation to greatly damage Bellibolt further. Iono then got serious and Terastallized Bellibolt into an Electric-type, which then unleashed a powered-up Discharge, and despite Quaxly's attempt to counter with Liquidation, the super-powered attack was too much, and Quaxly was defeated.

Bellibolt battling Dot's Quaxly

In HZ055, Bellibolt teamed up with Quaxly in a Tag Battle against Poppy of the Paldea Elite Four at Naranja Academy, facing off against Poppy's Copperajah and Tinkaton. Poppy started by ordering Copperajah to use Sandstorm, which surrounded the battlefield and started chipping away at Bellibolt and Quaxly while doing nothing to Poppy's Steel-types. Tinkaton then attacked Gigaton Hammer, but Bellibolt's Reflect softened the blow. With the protective barrier still active, Quaxly attacked with Water Gun, followed by Liquidation. Poppy's Pokémon shrug off the hits with ease, however, and Tinkaton destroyed the Reflect barrier Brick Break, much to Iono's shock. Hoping to end the battle, Poppy launched a combination attack in the form of Copperajah's Rock Slide and Tinkaton's Rock Smash, which sent a barrage of rocks raining onto her opponents. Bellibolt protected Quaxly with its body, at the cost of fatigue. With the sandstorm fading, Iono ordered Bellibolt to heal itself with Slack Off. Seeing Quaxly expressing his determination with dance moves, Dot came up with an idea and ordered him to dance on Bellibolt's belly, triggering its Electromorphosis Ability. When Tinkaton leapt in with Gigaton Hammer, Bellibolt used its belly to launch Quaxly high into the air to avoid the attack, after which Dot Terastallized Quaxly and commanded powered-up Liquidation. The attack clashed with Tinkaton's hammer until both sides were pushed back. However, Bellibolt used the distraction to get onto Copperajah's back, allowing it to land a close-range Zap Cannon, thus resulting in Dot and Iono being declared winners.

Personality and characteristics

Bellibolt and Iono

Bellibolt shares a close relationship with its Trainer Iono, being her livestream partner, which in turn also led to Bellibolt becoming extremely popular amongst Paldea thanks to its connection with Iono. It also seems to share Iono's cheerful and eccentric personality, acting just like its Trainer during their livestreams, but seems to also have a more relaxed side to itself which is often seen during their free time. True to Iono's status as Gym Leader, Bellibolt is an incredibly powerful Pokémon, with its Electromorphosis being one of its most reliable tactics, powering up its moves to the fullest. Bellibolt is also capable of working well with other Pokémon in battle, as seen in HZ055 when it protected Quaxly from a Rock Slide-Rock Smash combination from Poppy's Pokémon without Iono ordering it to, and later used Quaxly's attacks to sneak up on Poppy's Copperajah for a finishing blow.

Iono's Bellibolt in Pokémon: Paldean Winds

Iono was initially revealed to the public on October 12th, 2022, in a video uploaded to all official Pokémon YouTube channels titled Guess Iono’s Partner Pokémon![4] with the intent to tease the reveal of her partner Pokémon, Bellibolt, just two days later in Meet Bellibolt.[5] An announcement of her reveal was made just one day prior, with the Japanese account including a silhouetted tease of her design.[6] In the videos, she dances around animatedly, spouts her usual catchphrases, and baits the audience to catch the full reveal, letting slip that she chose to do so to rack up the on her follow-up.
