Trivia
- Apparently, in the D/P animation of Claydol, its arms appear to be detachable and re-attachable.
- On Smogon, Claydol is deemed Under-Used. However, on most other sites, it is still considered solid Over-Used.
Origin
Its design is similar to the 遮光器土偶 shakōkidogū - a "spaceman" clay figurine from the Jōmon period of Japanese history. It also looks exactly like the connecting piece on Chinese bracelets.
Name origin
Claydol's name appears to be a combination of clay, idol, and possibly doll as well. Judging by the pronunciation, it may also be a combination of clay and dreidel, because Claydol and its pre-evolution look like tops. Nendoll is probably a combination of 念 nen, thought, and doll. Nen is found in various compounds having to do with ESP-related phenomena, for instance, 念写 nensha, spirit-photography, and 念動 nendō, telekinesis. It may also be (as the English name suggests) a combination of 粘土 nendo, "clay," and doll.
