Bastiodon (Japanese: トリデプス Trideps) is a dual-typed Rock/Steel Pokémon. It is only available after being revived from a fossil in Sinnoh.

Biology

Physiology

Bastiodon appears to be a cross between a Chasmosaurus and a bulldozer. The small, shield-like growth this Pokémon had before evolution has grown into a large shield bearing some resemblance to a castle wall. The shield is large enough to protect it from attacks. On its feet, smaller, shield-like growths sprout upward to protect the Pokémon's legs. There are also small gray spikes along Bastiodon's back. Bastiodon could possibly be an ancient relative of Aggron since both have similar typing, appearance, and can learn most of the same moves.

Gender differences

None.

Special abilities

Aside from Bastiodon having amazing defensive capabilities, it can learn some powerful attack oriented moves, such as Metal Burst and Iron Head.

Behavior

Despite its rough, cruel appearance, Bastiodon is surprisingly timid and caring. It will go to great lengths to protect the young in its herd.

Habitat

Fossils from which Bastiodon can be resurrected are only known from the Sinnoh region.

Diet

Main article: Pokémon food

Trivia

  • Game Freak's strange opinion that Rock/Steel is a good defensive typing is apparent when you look at Bastiodon.

Origin

Bastiodon is based on a Ceratopsian dinosaur. Its protective growth resembles a castle wall.

Name origin

Bastiodon is a combination of bastion and don, a suffix on various dinosaur names. Trideps's name comes from a combination of the words 砦 toride, fortress, and Triceratops.
