Pokémon world locations

The Friend Safari (Japanese: フレンドサファリ Friend Safari) is a facility in Kiloude City where Trainers can catch Pokémon that cannot normally be found in their journeys.

In the games

Once the player has entered the Hall of Fame, they are able to access Kiloude City and thus the Friend Safari. When they have registered someone else's 3DS Friend Code in their own 3DS, the player is able to access the Friend Safari belonging to that friend, regardless of whether that person has played Pokémon X and Y or not. Each Friend Code has a designated Pokémon type and specific Pokémon that will be obtainable in its Friend Safari, and these will not change. As such, any player who ever registers a given Friend Code in their 3DS will always be able to access the exact same Friend Safari.

Players cannot access their own Friend Safari.

Pokémon

All Pokémon that appear in the Friend Safari are level 30 (causing some, such as Muk and Drapion, to be underleveled) and are guaranteed to have at least two IVs of 31. Pokémon can be found in the Friend Safari regardless of being version-exclusive Pokémon or otherwise unobtainable in either version.

All Friend Safaris have three Pokémon that may be captured. Only two of them will be available until the friend to whom that Safari belongs enters the Hall of Fame. All three Pokémon are of the same type, determined by that player's Friend Code. Once the player has been online in-game at the same time as a friend, the Pokémon in that friend's Safari will thereafter have a chance of having their Hidden Ability. If the player has not been online in-game at the same time with a given friend, that friend will have a "?" where their character avatar would otherwise be.

Cascoon, a pure Bug-type Pokémon, is the only Pokémon to be found in a Friend Safari whose type does not match itself, as it is found in a Poison-type Friend Safari. However, its evolution, Dustox, is part Poison-type.

Pokémon encountered in the Friend Safari have a 1/512 chance of being Shiny, or eight times more likely than normal; this chance is unaffected by the Shiny Charm.

In the tables below, note that "rate" does not refer to encounter rate but rather the likelihood for a Pokémon to be available in that type of Friend Safari at all. All Pokémon that can appear in a specific friend's Friend Safari have the same encounter rate.

Trivia

  • Initially, Vivillon's icon would not replace the Poké Ball icon after it was encountered. This was fixed in the version 1.3 patch.
  • Floette is the only Pokémon to have a greater than 50% chance of appearing in a Friend Safari.
  • The Friend Safari is the only place where the evolutions of starter Pokémon can appear in the wild, excluding Pal Park.
