The Friend Safari (Japanese: フレンドサファリ Friend Safari) is a facility in Kiloude City where Trainers can catch Pokémon that can not normally be found in their journeys.

Overview

Once the player has defeated the Champion, they are able to access Kiloude City, and thus can access the Friend Safari. When a player has registered someone else's Nintendo 3DS Friend Code in their own system, they are able to access that other person's specific Friend Safari, regardless of whether the friend has played Pokémon X and Y. Each Friend Code has a designated Pokémon type with specific obtainable Pokémon assigned to its Safari that cannot be changed. As such, any player who has a single person's Friend Code registered in their system will have access to that person's specific, unchangeable Safari.

Players cannot access their own Friend Safari.

Pokémon

All Pokémon that appear in the Friend Safari are level 30 and are guaranteed to have at least two individual values of 31. Pokémon can be found in the Friend Safari regardless of if they would otherwise be version-exclusive Pokémon, or obtainable in neither game. Any given player has three Pokémon available for capture in their Friend Safari, with only two showing up until they have defeated the Champion and then been online at the same time as the player. All three Pokémon are of the type designated to that player's Friend Code. Pokémon found in the Friend Safari have a small chance of having their Hidden Ability; if both players are online, this chance increases.

Trivia

  • Cascoon, a pure Bug-type Pokémon, is the only known Pokémon that is found in a Friend Safari that is not its own type (found within a Poison-type Friend Safari).
  • Vivillon is the only Pokémon to not have its icon show up after being encountered in the Friend Safari, remaining as the Poké Ball icon used to signify an unencountered Pokémon.
  • Because all of the Pokémon are found at level 30, some Pokémon, like Muk and Drapion, are underleveled.
  • The Friend Safari is the only place where starter Pokémon can appear in the wild (excluding Pal Park).
