Trivia
- Mantyke's US name was revealed on January 21, 2007, one day after Dialga and Palkia's US names were revealed.
- Mantyke is the only Pokémon so far that needs another Pokémon to be in the party in order to evolve it. In the anime, however, Slowpoke evolve into Slowbro by having a Shellder clamp on to their tails, and Slowking if the Shellder clamps their heads. Descriptions of other Pokémon such as Weezing and Magneton, however, imply that these Pokémon evolve by joining with others of the same species.
- It is the second heaviest baby Pokémon behind Munchlax.
- It is the baby Pokémon with the lowest [Catch rate] (25).
Origin
Mantyke is based on a baby manta ray.
Name origin
Mantyke is a combination of manta and tyke, a word sometimes used to described a child. Its Japanese name, Tamanta, is a combination of tama, the Japanese word for "ball", and manta.
