So far I have 4 badges and have had 1 blackout/whiteout/game over. My Pokédex is at 50/150.

1/29/17: This game is pretty hard so far... I have to do a lot of grinding to keep up, because of the low level of wild/trainer Pokémon and the high level of gym Pokémon. My first blackout was while fighting Brock. After losing, I leveled up Elvis (Nidoran ♂) up one more level and of course then it learned a move supereffective against Rock-type. I defeated Brock's Geodude pretty quickly and was close to defeating Onix when suddenly Onix used Bide and OHKO'd Elvis. I had two other Pokémon: a Pikachu whose only attacking moves did no damage against Onix, and a Lv.4 Nidoran ♀, Mercury. I sent out Mercury and slowly got rid of the little HP Onix had left. It instantly shot up 4 levels.
2/3/17: Lt. Surge was ridiculous... ridiculously easy. I expected that I needed to grind a ton to defeat him, as most of my Pokémon were around level 21 and his Raichu was 28, but I decided to feel things out to see what level I'd need to be. I got through the puzzle and challenged Surge with my level 22 Nidoqueen, and his strategy was awful: keep spamming Growl, every so often using Thunderbolt, Mega Kick, or an X Speed. The Mega Kick was the one thing I needed to worry about, but I had 10 Super Potions and he only used it once. Slowly I whittled down Raichu's HP and got the Thunder Badge. Shortly after, I got a bike and went to Diglett Cave to get Flash, and ran into a level 29 Dugtrio! I tried to catch it, but I ended up running out of Pokéballs and it knocked out almost my whole team.
2/4/17: I tried again for a Dugtrio... and caught it first ball. It's seven levels higher than my second highest-leveled Pokémon...
2/17/17: I'm at the point where playing this game is a chore. It isn't fun at all. Really at this point there are only two reasons I keep playing: to say I completed every Pokémon game, and to move on to Crystal.
2/19/17: Four gym badges - that (hopefully) means I'm halfway! Hopefully the game either will start getting more enjoyable here, or will start speeding up.
2/20/17: Today was really productive! I fully evolved Elvis and Chungy, made it through the Rocket Hideout, defeated Giovanni, and got the Silph Scope. I'm starting to feel good about this game. Hopefully I should finish it within the next two weeks.
2/21/17: I beat the Ghost at Pokemon Tower! I one-shotted it with a super-effective critical-hit Bubblebeam. I have no plans to go back to Lavender Town. After that, I caught Snorlax! I made it to Fuchsia City, but since Koga's highest Pokemon is Lv.50 and my highest is 36, I decided to go and get an ExpAll. But I need 50 Pokemon in the Pokedex for that and I only have 22! So I went to the Safari Zone.
3/3/17: With the catch of Miracle the Dratini, I made it to 50 Pokédex entries! With that, I got the ExpAll. After some experimenting, it seems like the ExpAll isn't really worth it, so I put it back in the PC.

6/7/17: I started a couple weeks ago but forgot to update. So far I've beaten four gyms. While I was starting out I wanted to play it on my old DS Lite, but for some reason the connection between the system and the cartridge wasn't very good, so I got reasonably far and jiggled the system a little too hard, and all my progress was lost, because I didn't save since I got my starter. RIP Big Scrung, the Starly, you will be missed.
6/8/17: Today was a grinding session for Emogie. I'm planning to get him leveled up enough to evolve into Bronzong. I also found the Suite Key today. That's more than 8 year old me can say, ever. The Dowsing Machine in this game is really weird.

I don't exactly have a log or much data for Moon because I decided to do this little challenge after I beat Moon...

Review

• Final Time: about 50 hours (I didn't check the time)
• I had no blackouts/whiteouts/game overs.
• Difficulty: 8/10 Although I had no blackouts, there were a lot of tough times and close calls. Particularly the fight against Totem Lurantis (Screw you, Castform!), Hala and Kahili on the Elite Four, and my closest call: Kukui (It ended with both of our Snorlaxes being out only Pokémon left and I barely beat it without fainting myself.)
• My overall rating: 9.5/10
  • Region: 10/10 Alola is undoubtedly the most beautiful region I've seen. Really, the only thing that sets it from a 10 is some of the weird landscape on Ula'ula, particularly the desert next to a snowy mountain.
  • Plot: 10/10 Sun and Moon is unique for me because it had a bunch of likable, interesting characters, and an excellent plot that hooked me. I can't really point out any flaws in the plot.
  • New Pokémon Design: 9/10 Most of the Pokémon are really, really well designed. Really the only ones I didn't like were the monkeys and Bruxish.
  • Gameplay: 9/10 This game is so unbelievably polished: a ton of awesome new features and the removal of things that I didn't like (HMs and the PC menus, for example). The only thing that keeps the gameplay from a perfect 10 is the long tutorial lasting most of the first quarter of the game.
