- No other Pokémon has the same type combination as Heatran.
- Heatran is the only Pokémon to take less than normal damage from both Dragon- and Template:Type2 moves, and that only occurs because of its ability, which gives immunity to Template:Type2 moves.
- Together with Empoleon, Heatran is also the only non-Template:Type2 to have a 1/4 resistance to Ice.
- Heatran is the only Pokémon that is not a Template:Type2 that learns Stone Edge by level, not counting Steelix because it evolves from the Template:Type2 Onix.
- Heatran is the last Template:Type2 Pokémon in National Dex order, and also the last Template:Type2.
- Heatran has the highest Special Attack of any Template:Type2 Pokémon.
- Heatran is the heaviest Pokémon with weight under 1,000 pounds, making it the seventh heaviest Pokémon.
Origin
Heatran could be based on a mythical salamander, a giant lizard of folklore made completely of lava and fire.
Name origin
Its name comes from the words heat and possibly transfer. The "doran" in its Japanese name can also be read as "dran", so it may be a combination of "heat" and "dragon".
