In the anime, Pidgeotto played a role as one of Ash Ketchum's Pokémon. It participated in the Gym battles against Brock and Misty, was frequently used for breaking Team Rocket's Meowth-shaped balloon, and was the only one of Ash's Pokémon at the time, save some of his numerous Tauros, not to participate in the Pokémon League in Kanto. It eventually evolved into Pidgeot and left Ash's party.

Vladimir the Attacker owns a Pidgeotto which knows Aerial Ace. He uses it to demonstrate to other trainers how to use the Template:Type2 attack.

In the manga

In Pokémon Special, Falkner owns a Pidgeotto.

In Electric Tale of Pikachu, Ash gave his Pidgeotto the name of "Walter" and it appeared several times.

Trivia

  • Pidgeotto's hair color has differed from red and pink various different times.

Origin

Despite its name, its design appears to be less of a pigeon and more of an osprey or other bird of prey.

Name origin

Its name is a corruption of pigeon, a common bird. Its Japanese name clearly refers to said species of bird.

In other languages

  • German: Tauboga
  • French: Roucoups - Roucoule means coo, and coups most likely means strikes in this context.
  • Korean: 피죤 Pijyon
  • Chinese (Taiwan): 比比鸟 Bî Bî Nîao - Transliteration of the first part of Pidgeotto's Japanese name, Pigeon. The last character literally means bird.
  • Chinese (Hong Kong): 比比鳥 Bî Bî Nîao
