Trivia
- "Kokoon" was the prototype English name for Kakuna, which would be the same as the romanized Japanese name.
- The "arms" on Kakuna on the Red and Blue sprite have not been seen extended again in any subsequent game.
- Kakuna shares the same species name with Metapod, Silcoon, and Cascoon. They are all known as Cocoon Pokémon.
- In the anime, Kakuna has been shown evolving more than any other Pokémon.
- In Pokémon Platinum, Kakuna can learn Bug Bite by evolution from Weedle, or learn it through a Move Tutor in HeartGold and SoulSilver, despite not having a visible mouth.
Origin
Its design appears to be based on a chrysalis or the pupa stage of a bee.
Name origin
Its name is just a corruption of the word cocoon, and in the case of its Japanese name, it is the word itself.
In other languages
- German: Kokuna - From Kokon (cocoon).
- French: Coconfort - From cocon (cocoon), confort (comfort), and possibly fort (strong).
- Korean: 딱충이 Ttakchungi
- Chinese (Taiwan): 鐵殼昆 Tiě Ké Kūn - "Iron shell insect". 殼昆 Ké Kūn also sounds like cocoon.
- Chinese (Hong Kong): 鐵殼蛹 Tîe Qìao Yông - "Iron shell pupa".
