Biology
Weedle is a small, brown, serpentine larva Pokémon with a segmented body. Weedle has dark, circular eyes, many little pink feet, and a pink, round nose. Weedle has a poisonous stinger on both its tail and head. Its bright coloration is intended to ward off its enemies. Weedle can be found in forests. Weedle usually hides in grass and bushes, and under the leaves that it eats. It can distinguish its favorite kinds of leaves by smelling them. Weedle eats such a copious amount that it eats its weight in leaves every day.

Trivia
- Weedle is the only Pokémon incapable of learning Normal-type moves, if Hidden Power's inability to be a Normal move in practice is not considered in Unown's case.
- Up until Platinum, Weedle was completely incapable of dealing damage to Steel-type Pokémon outside of Struggle. This was because Weedle could only learn Poison Sting, which Steel types are immune to. In Platinum onwards, Weedle can learn Bug Bite. However, Steel types still resist moves of its type.
- An early design of Weedle's sprite was shown on Game Freak's official Japanese website.
- Weedle is one of few Pokémon to have its entire evolutionary family introduced in a single episode of the anime.
Origin
Weedle appears to be based on the larva of a bee. The yellow color makes it also similar to the larva of a wasp
Name origin
Weedle is likely a combination of worm and needle (referring to the stingers on its body). It also may derive as a corruption of weevil, another sort of bug. As well, the weed part of Weedle may refer to it eating plant life.
Beedle is a combination of bee and needle.
