Route 203 (Japanese: 203ばんどうろ Route 203) is a route in western Sinnoh, connecting Jubilife City and Oreburgh Gate.

Route description

Route 203 connects Oreburgh City in the east and Jubilife City in the west. Despite being near such a big town, this path retains its relaxed, natural atmosphere. The path starts off from the west and trails off up a flight of stairs. There will be a few patches of grass and a small pond. If the player will go up another flight of stairs they will reach the top of the hill, where there will be a large patch of grass across the ledge. There is also another flight of stairs going down to the north of the route to reach a small area of grass behind the pond.

This route is where the protagonist will face their rival for the first time in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, and the second time in Pokémon Platinum. The Pokémon in his party will vary depending on the player's starter Pokémon.

Trainer Tips

Trainer Tips!
Pokémon moves use energy called
Power Points, or PP for short.
If the PP of moves runs low, head for
any Pokémon Center.

Trainer Tips!
If a Pokémon is about to evolve,
it can be instantly stopped.
Press the B Button during evolution
to startle the Pokémon into stopping.
That is how evolution can be
canceled.

Trivia

  • Route 203 is widely regarded by competitive battlers as the best place to EV-train for the Attack stat, as the only Pokémon caught by the Super Rod are Gyarados and Seaking, both of which give two Attack EVs when defeated.
  • In Diamond and Pearl Versions, Lass Madeline mentions having gotten a Badge from Oreburgh, which implies that she did defeat Roark. That would be close to impossible, considering she has only two Pokémon (Starly and Bidoof), both of which are at levels below that of Roark's Geodude (his weakest Pokémon) and having only moves that are resisted by all of Roark's Pokémon.
