Effect
This item is used to toggle between riding the Mach Bike or walking again. It is not possible to start riding the Mach Bike if the player is indoors or surfing. If the player goes indoors or starts surfing, they will leave the Mach Bike automatically. The Running Shoes are unusable as long as the player is riding the Mach Bike. It is not possible to dismount the bike while on any Cycling Road.
Riding the Mach Bike replaces the overworld music with the Cycling theme. Once the player resumes walking, the regular overworld music starts again.
Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Omega Ruby, and Alpha Sapphire
The Mach Bike allows players to move a lot faster than regular Bicycles and the Acro Bike (15 steps per second in Generation III, 16 steps per second in Generation VI). If the player is already riding the Mach Bike, then using this item causes the player to resume walking.
It can move fast enough to ride over cracked tiles without falling through (which appear in Generation III in Granite Cave, the Sky Pillar, and Mirage TowerE), or ride straight up muddy slopes if the player has enough speed. If the player collides with something, then the speed resets.
Riding the Mach Bike or Acro Bike is required on the Seaside Cycling Road. On the Seaside Cycling Road, a player's time and number of collisions while riding this Bicycle from the northern entrance to the southern exit are timed and recorded. This is part of the data sent over to other players via record mixing.
Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen
In Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, the Mach Bike (as well as the Acro Bike) is found in the game data, but it is not legitimately obtainable. Using this item causes the player to start riding the regular Bicycle.
When the player attempts to enter the Route 17 Cycling Road, the game specifically checks for the event flag indicating that the player has received the Bicycle from the Miracle Cycle shop in Cerulean City. As a result, if the player has the Mach Bike but has never received the regular Bicycle from Miracle Cycle, the player will still be unable to enter the Cycling Road.

Pokémon Adventures
Ruby & Sapphire arc
In Dreadful Dealing with Dusclops, Wally used a Mach Bike left for him by Norman at the base of the Sky Pillar to quickly ride over the cracked floors in order to scale up the tower. When Wally reached the 49th floor, he encountered a wild Dusclops, which created a black hole, sucking in the Mach Bike before being defeated by Wally's Grovyle.
