It evolves into Mightyena at level 18.

Poochyena's body is gray, with black coloration on its face and feet. This coloration is swapped when it evolves.

When Prof. Birch got separated from Ash Ketchum in Get the Show on the Road, he was attacked by a pack of these Bite Pokémon (similar to what happens in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire).

One of the Gym Badge thieves from The Blue Badge of Courage had a Poochyena.

In A Bite to Remember, Max befriended a Poochyena and helped it to evolve.

Poochyena appeared in both Disaster of Disguise, and Disguise Da Limit. It first appeared under the the ownership of a young girl. Later, during Mrs. Grimm's flashback, it was revealed that she owned one as a child.

Ruby At first sight, Poochyena takes a bite at anything that moves. This Pokémon chases after prey until the victim becomes exhausted. However, it may turn tail if the prey strikes back.
Sapphire Poochyena is an omnivore - it will eat anything. A distinguishing feature is how large its fangs are compared to its body. This Pokémon tries to intimidate its foes by making the hair on its tail bristle out.
Emerald It savagely threatens foes with bared fangs. It chases after fleeing targets tenaciously. It turns tail and runs, however, if the foe strikes back.
FireRed It has a very tenacious nature. Its acute sense of smell lets it chase a chosen prey without ever losing track.
LeafGreen It has a very tenacious nature. Its acute sense of smell lets it chase a chosen prey without ever losing track.

It shares some similarities with both wolves and hyenas.

Name origin

Poochyena's name, a misspelling of its Japanese name, may be a combination of pooch, a nickname for a dog, and hyena.
