Zone (Japanese: ゾーン Zone) is a type of field effect in Pokémon Masters EX that affects all Pokémon on the field. Only one type of zone may be present at a time, with any new zone put in place overwriting the previous zone. Zones can run concurrently alongside weather and terrain.

Activating a Steel Zone

At normal game speed, zones generally last for 45 seconds. This excludes time that sync pairs spend performing sync moves or max moves, but this includes time spent on everything else (e.g., moves' animation times, stats getting raised or lowered, taking damage from hail or a sandstorm, skills activating, or status conditions being applied or taking effect). At faster speeds, zones last shorter to accommodate for quicker gameplay. However, the duration of a zone can be extended if the same type of zone is summoned again or if a Pokémon on the field has a certain skill that extends the duration of the zone.

There are thirteen types of zones, one for each type whose moves are not powered up by a weather or terrain effect. In order of release, the zones are Ghost Zone, Dragon Zone, Steel Zone, Dark Zone, Flying Zone, Bug Zone, Ground Zone, Fighting Zone, Fairy Zone, Poison Zone, Rock Zone, Ice Zone, and Normal Zone. Each zone powers up attacks of the corresponding type by 50% (e.g., Ghost Zone powers up Ghost-type moves).

Creating zones

Zones may be applied through item moves, Trainer moves, buddy moves, and skills. Some  Field sync pairs can set a zone using their sync move after being raised to   6★ EX (including those with the Field EX role).

The following field sync pairs, when raised to 6★ EX, will implement a zone just before their sync move is used for the first time in a battle. The duration of this zone is also extended. Sync pairs with a field EX role need to be raised to 6★ EX and receive a Field Roll Cake in order to access this effect.

Removing zones

Except in certain circumstances, such as a battle where all field effects are permanent, zones will automatically disappear after a certain amount of time. The only way to remove a zone before the end of this timer is by setting up a new zone, which will override the previous one, or using the move Defog.
