Volbeat (Japanese: バルビート Barubeat) is a Template:Type2 Pokémon.
It is not known to evolve into or from any other Pokémon.
Biology
Physiology
Volbeat slightly resembles a firefly in appearance. Its body, wings, and face are blue, and its body has two yellow stripes. Its back (or possibly its shell) as well as its arms and legs are black. Its long, curly antennae are yellow with black stripes. The irises of its eyes are yellow, and its face seems to display a sad or forlorn expression. Possibly its most important part is its glowing yellow tail, which it uses to communicate, draw patterns in the night sky, and use its move Tail Glow.
Gender differences
Volbeat is a male-only species. For the female counterpart, see Illumise.
Special abilities
Volbeat's signature move was Tail Glow until generation IV, when Manaphy could use it.
Behavior
Volbeat performs its courtship dance for Illumise during its mating season.

Trivia
- In Generation III Volbeat could not learn any special moves by level up, making Tail Glow completely useless
- There have been two evolution issues with Volbeat. One is its partnership with Illumise, that it was believed to evolve into it. Another was Kricketot, which shared such a resemblance to Volbeat that it was thought to evolve into it.
- Like Nidoran♀ and Nidoran♂ reverse colors when Template:Shiny2, Volbeat's alternate coloration is similar to the normal coloration of Illumise.
- Volbeat is, so far, the only Pokémon that can learn Flash by leveling up.
- Volbeat shares the same species name with its female counterpart Illumise. They are both known as Firefly Pokémon.
- Despite being the Firefly Pokémon, it can be found all day in Diamond and Pearl, unlike real fireflies who are nocturnal.
Origin
Volbeat appears to be based on a firefly and a greaser, due to how it holds up it's head fringe like a leather jacket.
Name origin
Volbeat's name is a combination of volt, referring to its electrical powers, and beetle or beat. Its Japanese name is a possible combination of バルブ barubu, meaning bulb, and beetle
