History

Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs special

Ben as a child

Ben debuted in Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs (Part 1), where he attempted to stop the Pokémon Pinchers from gaining control of a Latios. However, he was eventually attacked during his mission by Red Eyes, and he crash-landed on Dolce Island where he captured a Ukulele Pichu.

In Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs (Part 2), Ben flew over to Rasp Cavern on Renbow Island to disrupt the Pinchers' attempts to steal a Ranger Sign. While Red Eyes and his crew escaped with the Sign, Ben managed to free a Cranidos in the process. He chased after the fleeing Pokémon Pinchers, and they were all confronted by a more daunting opponent, Raikou.

Pokémon the Series: Diamond and Pearl

Ben in the anime

Ben made his main series debut in Pokémon Ranger: Heatran Rescue!, where he was assigned to bring a rare Heatran that knows Eruption to the National Park for its own safety. His first attempt was interrupted by Team Rocket's RoboDiglett, and he lost his Capture Styler as a result. The Rocket trio later found the device and plotted to use it capture the Heatran for themselves.

Meanwhile, Ben encountered Ash and his friends after falling into a river, and he enlisted their help with his mission. Using the increase in ground temperature as a guide, Ben lead them up a mountain and through a cave system, where they soon encountered the special Heatran. Team Rocket appeared again, but the nabbed Capture Styler failed to operate as it was synchronized with Ben. The trio resorted to their RoboDiglett, but the unfolding battle caused the cave system to begin collapsing. Eventually, with the help of Ash's group, he managed to capture Heatran via his Capture Styler and helped it escape to safety.

Character

Ben is remarkably optimistic even in the most difficult of situations. He attributes his positive outlook to his grandfather, who encouraged him to give everything a go. Ben is also highly knowledgeable and uses his field experience, such as feeling the ground for increasing heat to locate Heatran in Pokémon Ranger: Heatran Rescue!.
