Trivia
- In some Sugimori artwork of Stantler, it is depicted with a white tail. However only in its third generation sprites it has the white tail, which would be later dropped in Generation IV.
Origin
It appears to be based on a reindeer, since both, the males and females have antlers. The Template:Shiny2 form has a red nose, in reference to Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.
Name origin
Stantler's name may be combination of stag and antler. Its Japanese name probably comes from 脅し odoshi, threat, 鹿 shika, deer, and possibly also from 猪狩 shishigari, which means "hunting" in regards to animals such as deer. Its German name, Damhirplex, comes from Damhirsch and perplex. Its French name, Cerfrousse, comes from cerf and frousse.
