Levitate renders the user immune to Ground moves (except Sand Attack), Spikes, Toxic Spikes, Misty Terrain, Grassy Terrain, Electric Terrain, Arena Trap, and damage from Sky Drop. These immunities can be lost if the user is holding an In-battle effect item or is under the effects of Smack Down, Gravity, or Ingrain.
Levitate renders the Pokémon with this Ability immune to damaging Ground moves (except Thousand Arrows). It also is unaffected by the effects of Arena Trap, Spikes, Toxic Spikes, Sticky Web, Rototiller, and terrain. Additionally, Poison Pokémon with Levitate do not remove Toxic Spikes upon switching in.

These immunities are lost during Gravity or if the Pokémon with Levitate is holding an Iron Ball, is under the effects of Ingrain, or has been hit by Smack Down or Thousand Arrows.

Pokémon with this Ability are eligible to enter Sky Battles, except Gengar because its model lands on the ground when entering the battle.

Many Pokémon with this Ability are eligible to enter Sky Battles; however, some Pokémon—such as Gengar—are ineligible.
Generation V
If an opponent uses a Ground-type move that targets a Pokémon with Levitate, the message "It doesn't affect <Pokémon>..." will be displayed.

Levitate (Japanese: ふゆう Floating) is an Ability introduced in Generation III.

Effect

In battle

Levitate renders the Pokémon with this Ability immune to damaging Ground-type moves (except Thousand Arrows). It also is unaffected by the effects of Arena Trap, Spikes, Toxic Spikes, Sticky Web, Rototiller, and terrain. Additionally, Poison-type Pokémon with Levitate do not remove Toxic Spikes upon switching in.

Generation V
