Trivia
- Though there are three Pokémon based on moths (Venomoth and Dustox being the other two), Mothim is the only one that is part Flying.
Origin
Mothim is based on an adult Bagworm Moth, which only fully mature if male.
Name origin
Mothim's Japanese name is derived from 蛾 ga, moth, and male. Mothim comes from moth and him. Its German name, Moterpel, comes from Motte. Its French name, Papilord, comes from papillon and lord. Its Korean name, 나메일 (Namale), seems to be a combination of words 'moth' (나방, nabang) and male.
