Tyrogue (Japanese: バルキー Balkie) is a Template:Type2 baby Pokémon.

He evolves into one of three different Pokémon starting at level 20:

Biology

Physiology

Tyrogue are medium-sized Pokémon that resemble people in general shape. However, he is predominantly purple in color with a brown bottom and feet which resemble short pants and shoes. There are white lines on his torso which resemble bandages. He also has these bandages on his wrists. He has three spikes on top of his head which resembles a crest.

Gender differences

Tyrogue is a male-only species with no female counterpart.

Special abilities

While he is a fighting Pokémon, Tyrogue's fighting skills are somewhat limited as it is. He has not developed his own fighting style just yet.

Behavior

Tyrogue are famous for their eagerness to compete and fight. No matter how much a Tyrogue loses, he will not quit and will keep on fighting.

In the anime

Tyrogue's first appearance was in A Tyrogue Full of Trouble. He had been abandoned by his previous Trainer and left to fend for his own. Because of this, he developed a hatred towards humans. Tyrogue ended up forming a gang of Mankey and Primeape and together they would steal from weary travelers, such as Ash and friends. But thanks to a Black Belt named Kiyo, who had been pursuing him, Tyrogue reformed a trust with humans and ended up becoming his newest Pokémon.

A Tyrogue also appeared in DP146 as one of the Pokémon entered in the Suiren Contest. Tyrogue made it to the final round but lost to James' Carnivine.

Trivia

  • Tyrogue and Eevee are the only Pokémon that can evolve into more than two Pokémon, if Wormadam's multiple forms are all considered one Pokémon.
  • In terms of breeding, Tyrogue can only be obtained by the use of a Ditto, as its family has no female counterpart.
  • In Generation III, Tyrogue was able to have Helping Hand as an egg move, which initially confused fans, given that none of its evolutions learned the move. However, this was addressed in Pokémon XD when purifying the shadow Hitmonchan would result in it learning Helping Hand, and thus allowing it to pass the move to a Tyrogue. It shares this trait with Slugma, who was unable to legally obtain its egg move Heat Wave until a shadow Magcargo in Pokémon XD learned the move when purified.
    • In Generation IV, however, Tyrogue gained Helping Hand via leveling up.
  • Tyrogue is the only Pokémon whose evolution path depends on its stats.
  • Tyrogue is the only baby Pokémon whose stats are all equal.
  • Tyrogue is the only baby Pokémon that cannot get STAB on any moves it learns through leveling up.
  • Until Generation IV, Tyrogue was the only baby Pokémon that could only learn one level up move.

Origin

It draws inspiration, especially in its most recent artwork, from wrestlers. The designs on Tyrogue's body resemble the uniform of most Scholastic Wrestling teams - possibly showing its maturity as a fighter (a younger creature, while its evolutions seem more professional).

Name origin

Tyrogue's name is a combination of tyro, meaning a beginner, and rogue, one who is playfully mischievous. It is also possible that the first part of his name is derived from tyke, meaning child, instead of tyro. His Japanese name is probably a corruption of the English word bulky, an adjective describing something large for its weight.

In other languages

  • German: Rabauz
  • French: Debugant - From débutant (beginner) and gant (glove).
  • Korean: 배루키 Baeruki
