Lental (Japanese: レンティル地方 Lentil-chihō) is the name of the region that serves as the setting for New Pokémon Snap. It is an archipelago with various ecosystems such as beaches, jungles, and deserts.
History
The presence of ancient ruins on all the islands indicates that the region had been inhabited by humans for a very long time. 2000 years ago, the region was threatened by a meteor strike, but it was saved by the Illumina Pokémon creating a barrier over the region. 100 years prior to the game, a man named Captain Vince explored most of the islands and recorded the species of Pokémon he found, including some of the Illumina Pokémon.
Geography
Lental is an archipelago made up of four main islands and many smaller islands. Each of these islands has a different climate which houses varied ecosystems for Pokémon species, and unique to the region is a special flower called the Crystabloom that also has variants on each island. Florio Island is a temperate grassland with a freshwater lake where Professor Mirror established the Laboratory of Ecology and Natural Sciences (L.E.N.S.). Belusylva Island is a mountainous and highly vegetated island; the wider, southern portion consists of a grin-shaped mountain range, the center rises into forested mountain range, and between these is a jungle cut through by the Mightywide River. The Maricopia Islands are a group of small, tropical islands known for their blue holes and surrounding coral reefs. Voluca Island is a hot and barren ridge dominated by the Fireflow Volcano, which recedes westward into rocky badlands and then to sandy desert. Durice Island is a remote and frigid island covered by permanent ice and snow that contains an extensive cave system which travels deep underground. Lastly, the small and mostly forgotten Aurus Island contains the most intact of the ancient ruins and is thought to be where Crystablooms originated.
