Cradily (Japanese: ユレイドル Yuradle) is a dual-type Rock/Grass Pokémon.

It evolves from Lileep starting at level 40.

Biology

Physiology

The Cradily has some markings on its skin that looks like its eyes, which are actually the yellow dots on the black part of its head. It also has eight pink tentacles around its neck. Its body is a lump with four tubes. Cradily is a fossil Pokémon no longer found in the wild, and must be evolved from a Lileep resurrected from a Root Fossil.

Gender differences

None.

Special abilities

Cradily's strength is far greater than that of its pre-evolution. It is able to roam the seafloor in search of its prey, and upon finding it, Cradily uses its massive tentacles to grip and then eat its prey. Its tentacles secrete corrosive acid that it uses to melt its prey.

Behavior

Cradily moves around the seafloor with stealth in search of its prey. It is a powerful hunter, and is very vicious to its prey while preparing to eat it. It makes its nests in shallow waters of the warm seas.

Habitat

Before its extinction, Cradily inhabited environments adjacent to bodies of water, such as seas or oceans, particularly in warm areas. Its personal nest was often made in the shoals of the sea. It was a common sight on beaches when the tides receded.

To prevent being washed out by rough tides, Cradily utilized its body as an anchor.

Root Fossils, from which this Pokémon is resurrected, have been found in the Hoenn and Sinnoh regions.

Diet

Main article: Pokémon food

Cradily appear to have once been carnivores seeing as it both hunted and ingested prey found in seafloors or its immediate surroundings using its eight tentacles.

In the anime

Cradily using Energy Ball

Cradily was first seen in Where's Armaldo? at the Island of Fossil Pokémon.

One made another cameo in Lucario and the Mystery of Mew on the Tree of Beginning.

Cradily also made a small appearance in Dealing With Defensive Types! with an Armaldo.

Trivia

  • Cradily's evolution line is one of two Grass-type lines that are not in the Plant Egg Group. The other is the Treecko line.
  • Cradily's colors on its Template:Shiny2 sprite resembles its pre-evolution's colors.
  • Despite being made of the two types with the highest amount of weaknesses, Grass and Rock, it has only four weaknesses.
  • Cradily has the highest Special Defense of all Grass-type Pokémon.
  • Cradily is the only Pokémon with Pokéthlon stats where each one is a different level.

Origin

It may be based on crinoids, or sea lilies, marine animals related to seastars which were once believed to be extinct.

Name origin

Cradily's name may be a combined form of cradle and lily. It also might be a combination of crag and lily. Finally, it is possible that it is a combination of crazily and lily.

Yuradle appears to be a combination of 百合 yuri, lily, and cradle.
