Dream Eater (Japanese: ゆめくい Dream Eat) is a damage-dealing Psychic move introduced in Generation I. It was TM42 in Generation I and II. It lost its status in Generation III before regaining its status as a TM, albeit as TM85, in Generation IV onwards.

Dream Eater (Japanese: ゆめくい Dream Eat) is a damage-dealing Psychic move introduced in Generation I.

It is:
* TM42 in Generations I and II.
* TM85 from Generation IV to Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, and in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
* TM59 in Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!.

Effect
Effect
Dream Eater only works if the target is Sleep; otherwise, it does nothing. Dream Eater inflicts damage, and 50% of the damage dealt to the target is restored to the user as HP (up to the user's maximum HP). However, if this attack deals 1 HP of damage, 1 HP will be restored to the user.
Dream Eater also affects targets with the Comatose Ability, which act as though they are asleep without the status condition.
If the user is holding a Big Root, the HP restored is increased by 30% (making the restored HP 65% of the damage dealt). Big Root does not increase the damage dealt.
When used on a Pokémon with the Liquid Ooze Ability, the user will lose the amount of HP it would have gained instead.
A Pokémon under the effect of Heal Block is unable to use Dream Eater. If there are no other usable moves, it will use Struggle.
If HP is restored to the user when its current HP is greater than its maximum HP, its current HP will be set equal to its maximum HP.

Generation I-III
Generation I
Dream Eater only works if the target is Sleep. Dream Eater inflicts damage and 50% of the damage dealt is restored to the user as Hit Points. If this attack deals 1 damage, 1 HP will be restored to the user.
In the localized versions of the Generation I games, if Dream Eater breaks a substitute, no HP will be restored to the user. In the Japanese version of Generation I games and all versions of the Pokémon Stadium series games, Dream Eater will always miss if the target has a substitute.

If Dream Eater breaks a substitute, no HP will be restored to the user. If HP is restored to the user when its current HP is greater than its maximum HP, its current HP will be set equal to its maximum HP.
Generations II to IV
Dream Eater fails if the target has a substitute.

Dream Eater will always fail if the target is not asleep.
Dream Eater can be used as the second move of a Pokémon Contest combination, with the user gaining 2 bonus appeal points if Calm Mind or Hypnosis was used in the previous turn.

In Pokémon Stadium, Dream Eater will always fail if the target has a substitute.
Generation V onwards
Dream Eater can now hit a substitute and will properly heal the user when damaging a substitute, even if it was broken.

Generation IV
Dream Eater can be used as part of a Contest Spectacular combination, with the user gaining an extra three appeal points if a sleep-inducing status move (except Psycho Shift and Rest) was used in the prior turn.
If the user has a In-battle effect item as its held item, it will recover 30% more HP than it normally would. Big Root does not increase damage dealt. All other effects remain the same.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series
Dream Eater inflicts damage, and 50% of the damage dealt to the target is restored to the user as HP, including excess damage. The move will fail if the target is not affected by a sleep-related Status condition (Mystery Dungeon). The move is affected by the Status condition (Mystery Dungeon) status condition.
In Gates to Infinity, the user will heal based on how much HP the target lost, with excess damage not being accounted for. This is changed back to what it previously was in Super Mystery Dungeon.

UNITE
In Pokémon UNITE, Dream Eater is Gengar's second move. It is obtained by evolving into Haunter at level 5 and upgrading Lick into it instead of Hex. The user shoots forward a mysterious orb, sleeping enemies when it hits. If used again when a nearby enemy is asleep, the user teleports behind them and attacks: dealing damage to the enemy, healing the user, and reducing the cooldown of Shadow Ball or Sludge Bomb. At level 11, its damage and healing is increased.

Dream Eater (Japanese: ゆめくい Dream Eat) is a damage-dealing Psychic-type move introduced in Generation I.

It is:

Effect

Dream Eater only works if the target is asleep; otherwise, it does nothing.

Generation I

In the localized versions of the Generation I games, if Dream Eater breaks a substitute, no HP will be restored to the user. In the Japanese version of Generation I games and all versions of the Pokémon Stadium series games, Dream Eater will always miss if the target has a substitute.

Generations II to IV

Dream Eater fails if the target has a substitute.

Dream Eater can be used as the second move of a Pokémon Contest combination, with the user gaining 2 bonus appeal points if Calm Mind or Hypnosis was used in the previous turn.

Generation V onwards

Dream Eater can now hit a substitute and will properly heal the user when damaging a substitute, even if it was broken.

Dream Eater can be used as part of a Contest Spectacular combination, with the user gaining an extra three appeal points if a sleep-inducing status move (except Psycho Shift and Rest) was used in the prior turn.

Dream Eater inflicts damage, and 50% of the damage dealt to the target is restored to the user as HP, including excess damage. The move will fail if the target is not affected by a sleep-related status condition. The move is affected by the Muzzle status condition.

In Gates to Infinity, the user will heal based on how much HP the target lost, with excess damage not being accounted for. This is changed back to what it previously was in Super Mystery Dungeon.

Pokémon UNITE

In Pokémon UNITE, Dream Eater is Gengar's second move. It is obtained by evolving into Haunter at level 5 and upgrading Lick into it instead of Hex. The user shoots forward a mysterious orb, sleeping enemies when it hits. If used again when a nearby enemy is asleep, the user teleports behind them and attacks: dealing damage to the enemy, healing the user, and reducing the cooldown of Shadow Ball or Sludge Bomb. At level 11, its damage and healing is increased.
