Togekiss (Japanese: トゲキッス Togekiss) is a dual-type Fairy/Flying Pokémon introduced in Generation IV. Prior to Generation VI, it was a dual-type Normal/Flying Pokémon.

It evolves from Togetic when exposed to a Shiny Stone. It is the final form of Togepi.

Biology

Togekiss is a white, avian Pokémon with an ovoid body. While its feet are small and situated closely together, its wings are broad and triangular. Red and blue triangular markings over its underside, and it has a short tail consisting of three feathers. On the back of its head are three spikes: a red-tipped one on the right, a blue-tipped one on the left, and a pure white one in the middle. Togekiss has a relatively flat face and small, black eyes.

Togekiss have long been known worldwide as bringers of blessings, being depicted on good-luck charms since ancient times. It is said that Togekiss brings good luck simply by virtue of its existence. However, they only appear in peaceful places and have never been witnessed anywhere near conflict or turmoil, making their recent sightings exceptionally rare. It shares many kind gifts and sweet blessings when it visits peaceful places or sees people who avoid strife and respect the rights of others.

Evolution

Togekiss evolves from Togetic and is the final form of Togepi.

Major appearances

Dawn's Togekiss

A female Togekiss made its main series debut in Dawn of a Royal Day!, originally under the ownership of Princess Salvia. Salvia wanted to enter a Pokémon Contest but could not due to her royal obligations. Therefore, she swapped places with Dawn for a day and entered the Arrowroot Contest with Togekiss. After winning, she gave Togekiss to Dawn as a gift as she felt the Jubilee Pokémon would be better off with a traveling Coordinator.

Other

In Bewitch, Battle, and Bewilder!, Cynthia used her Togekiss in her Masters Eight Tournament match against Ash, where it battled against Pikachu before being recalled. In Valor: A Strategic Part of Battling!, it was used to battle against Lucario and was Dynamaxed, only to wound up getting defeated in the next episode.

Minor appearances

Togekiss debuted in the opening sequence of Giratina and the Sky Warrior.

Trivia

Origin

Togekiss appears to be based on fairies and birds. Its white color and association with peace suggest inspiration from doves, while its triangular belly markings are similar to a snowy owl. Its reputation for sharing blessings is reminiscent of angels. Like its pre-evolutions, its round body resembles an egg. Its rigid, triangular wings are also reminiscent of a flying wing.

Name origin

Togekiss may be a combination of 刺 toge (spike) and kiss, referencing its kind nature.
