Trivia
- Although Venomoth clearly flies, it is not part Template:Type2 nor does it have the ability Levitate therefore making it susceptible to Template:Type2 moves. It shares this trait with Beedrill and Dustox. Coincidentally, all three of these are Bug/Poison dual-type Pokémon.
- In early official art of Venomoth, it was shown having yellow spots on the back of its wings. This was removed when later official artwork was released.
- Venomoth shares the same species name with Dustox. They are both known as the Poison Moth Pokémon.
- Of the first generation Bug Pokémon, Venomoth has the highest base Special Attack and ties with Scyther for the highest base HP.
- Despite the several entries describing Venomoth's many poisonous powder attacks, Venomoth learns PoisonPowder naturally only in Generation IV.
Origin
Venomoth is based on a moth.
Name origin
Venomoth's name is likely a combination of venom and moth. Its Japanese name is from モルフォチョウ morpho butterfly.
