Jubilife Village

The player putting on their Survey Corps outfit

Galaxy Hall, the headquarters of the Galaxy Team

You return to Jubilife Village, unscathed. On the way back, Rei/Akari mentions that you can carry up to six Pokémon in your party at one time, and eventually you can keep the rest in the village pastures (the equivalent of the PC for storing Pokémon, in other Pokémon games). Professor Laventon pipes up and suggests that you report to Cyllene as soon as possible.

Walk north and enter Galaxy Hall. Continue into Cyllene's office directly in front of you, and approach her desk. Upon your arrival, Cyllene is impressed. She gave you a tall order because you're an outsider, and yet you exceeded her expectations. She allows you to keep your satchel, hands you a Survey Corps Uniform and Sandals, and orders you to report to the Commander once you get changed.

Go outside of Galaxy Hall, and turn west to return to your room. Once inside, head to the back corner with the futon, and press A on the mirror on the wall to change your outfit. Press L or R to navigate the menus and press A to put on your Survey Corps Uniform and your Survey Corps Sandals. Press B when you're finished.

When you finish changing, you head back to the Galaxy Hall and Rei/Akari complements how the outfit fits you. Cyllene comes downstairs, saying that you may continue to live in the same room while you work in the Survey Corps. She finally gives you a hat to tie the outfit all together, and orders you to meet with the Commander on the third floor.

Commander Kamado, the Commander of the Galaxy Team

The Galaxy Team Commander

Head up either stairway to the second floor, and then turn around to go up another set of stairs in the middle of the floor.

At the top of the stairs, you meet Commander Kamado, the commander of the Galaxy Team, who introduces himself and is aware of the rift that you came from. He then immediately challenges you to physically fight him. You charge at him, but he easily sumo throws you, a tiny 15-year-old child, to the floor. He warns that not everyone in the village will be kind to outsiders, but acknowledges that you completed the trial and are now a proper member of the Survey Corps and Jubilife Village. He orders you to complete the Pokédex and to stay vigilant, as Pokémon are dangerous creatures.

You've completed The Galaxy Corps Entry Trial!

You return to Cyllene's office, and she explains that you're beginning as a No Star recruit, meaning you currently have no rank. To gain a better rank, Laventon adds, you must add more information to the Pokédex. To do that, you'll need Poké Balls, so Cyllene hands you a recipe to craft your own Poké Balls and $3,000 to buy the materials you'll need. She orders Rei/Akari to teach you how to craft, and you receive a mission: The Basics of Crafting.

The crafting interface

The Basics of Crafting

Head outside of Galaxy Hall. Anthe, the local clothier approaches you, and says that the Professor asked her to give you a change of clothes. She hands you an Everyday Kimono and a pair of Everyday Trousers, and hopes you take a look at the village shops eventually. (You can use the same mirror in your room to equip the outfit, if you'd like.) Rei/Akari yells and waves at you to follow them to the craftworks.

Follow Rei/Akari to the craftworks in the east. They explain, to craft, you just need to use the workbench and have the necessary materials and recipes. They hand you the materials for a Poké Ball for free, and tell you to spend the money on other things you might need.

Walk up to the crafting bench and press A to pull up the list of recipes. Press A again to select a recipe, and use the D-pad to select how many Poké Balls you'd like to craft. When you've decided, press A to craft.

You've completed The Basics of Crafting!

Laventon approaches again to remind you how Poké Balls make use of a Pokémon's ability to shrink down to capture them, and hands you a Pokédex. Rei/Akari explain that you need to complete research tasks to fill the Pokédex, and you receive a mission: Getting to Work on Research Tasks.

Accepting requests

You walk away from the bench, ready to get back to work, but Beauregard, the guardsman in front of Galaxy Hall, speaks up. He had overheard that you're heading to the Fieldlands Camp, and gives you your first request. Townspeople that have requests will have a request icon, and will give you useful rewards for completing them. It also shows the same icon on the Arc Phone map when you press minus (-).

If you'd like, talk to guardsman Beauregard to receive Request #1:Wurmple Can Evolve.

In this walkthrough, from now on, available requests will be shown in each section, but won't be covered in detail. Head to Legends: Arceus walkthrough/Tasks 1-30 for a detailed walkthrough on requests, as this section focuses on the main storyline and missions.

You also have gained access to a variety of shops and services throughout Jubilife Village: you can buy general trainer items at the general store, you just learned about the craftworks where you can buy materials to craft with, you can grow useful crops at the farm, and you can buy powerful buff charms at the folk shrine at the farthest northwest corner. All of these shops may not offer amazing items right now, but they'll continue to provide significantly more and more useful items as you progress.

When you're ready, head back to the same gate that you first left Jubilife Village from, and head to the Obsidian Fieldlands.

Obsidian Fieldlands

Starly's research tasks for its Pokédex entry

Map of Obsidian Fieldlands

Now that you're an actual member of the Survey Corps, it's finally time to get down to business and begin seeking out the Pokémon. When you arrive in the Obsidian Fieldlands, Laventon explains that you'll need to study the Pokémon in depth to begin writing its Pokédex entry.

The Pokédex

Unlike other Pokémon games, simply catching one Pokémon isn't enough complete its entry. Instead, you need to fulfill research tasks, to study the Pokémon's behaviors and habits. These include objectives like catching or battling multiple of the Pokémon, evolving the Pokémon, seeing them use certain moves, etc. There has never been an actual complete Pokédex before, so you're starting from scratch and you need as much data as you can collect.

You can press Down on the D-pad to open up the Pokédex. Each Pokémon's entry has different research tasks to complete. To complete a Pokédex entry, you need to finish 10 research tasks (you can think of it as 10 check marks). You should focus on the ones with the red arrows next to them, as they give double points, which make completing the entry faster. You could hypothetically complete a Pokédex entry with only 5 research tasks.

Head to Aspiration Hill

At this point, the game is much more open. You actually won't be able to progress unless you explore, so feel free to take your time, collect items, fill Pokédex entries, and most importantly catch Pokémon.

Rei/Akari also gives you a tip, and teaches you how to dodge. You can dodge by pressing the Y button for a brief window of invincibility and movement. Also unlike other Pokémon games, the Pokémon will openly attack you, the player. Rei/Akari reminds you that the day before, they were attacked by Shinx and had to be rescued—not just their Pokémon. Making use of dodging and dashing to maneuver out of tough situations will be key for preventing the same thing from happening to you.

Follow Rei/Akari onto Aspiration Hill. They explain that if you target a Pokémon with ZL, you can press Down on the D-pad to quickly access the Pokédex entry for that Pokémon. It's a useful little shortcut that makes it so that you don't need to search for the correct Pokédex entry manually. They also begin showing you examples of common research tasks: for instance, one of Bidoof's research tasks is to catch multiple of them.

Follow Rei/Akari down the path and into the tall grass in the west. One of Starly's research tasks is to catch it without being spotted.

Horseshoe Plains

Head to Horseshoe Plains

Go down the Aspiration Hill path all the way until the bridge, where you had first caught Shinx. Then, follow Rei/Akari westward, to the Horseshoe Plains. They point out Buizel, who is similarly aggressive to Shinx: you must battle it to have a chance to catch it. One of its research tasks is to see it use a specific attack in battle (in this case, Aqua Jet).

Follow Rei/Akari deeper into Horseshoe Plains. For keeping up with them, they give you your own Crafting Kit, which lets you craft anywhere using items from your satchel. (Your satchel has limited inventory space—if you want to craft using all your items, you should use a workbench.) They also give you a crafting recipe for Potions, using Oran Berries and Medicinal Leeks.

They also explain that the cover page of the Pokédex shows your current progress: how many Pokémon you've seen, how many you've caught, how many research tasks you've completed, etc. They ask you to report back to Professor Laventon when you're finished.

For now, don't worry about that yet and continue exploring.

The cover of the Pokédex, which displays your progress

Getting to Work on Research Tasks

If you'll notice, the mission description may read, "Report your research tasks to Professor Laventon and earn a sufficient number of Pokémon research points." To progress and rank up in the Survey Corps, you must earn a total of 500 research points (you can see how many you currently have and need at the bottom of the Pokédex's cover).

One research task gives 10 points, the research tasks with the red arrows give 20 points, and completing a Pokédex entry gives an additional 100 points. So, completing one entry gives a total of 200 points. With the sheer amount of new Pokémon around, and the research points you likely already have, it shouldn't take too long to earn enough to progress.

Here's some tips for catching Pokémon:

  • Aim for the Pokémon's back when throwing Poké Balls to increase the chance of catching it (i.e. catch rate), while it's distracted or doesn't see you.
  • You can also do the same when throwing a Pokémon out to initiate a battle, and the wild Pokémon will be stunned for a turn.
  • You can throw Berries to distract the Pokémon if it doesn't see you or is friendly. This also increases its catch rate while it's eating.
  • If the Pokémon is actively trying to attack you, you can instead throw Spoiled Apricorns or Balls of Mud to stun it and increase its catch rate.

The basic red Poké Ball doesn't have a high catch rate, so don't be discouraged if they break out, even with these tips. You can always lower their HP in battle, the old-fashioned way.

Now that much more of the map is available for you to explore, get to work on completing those research tasks in any order you'd like. You could start with the four you already have (your first partner Pokémon, Bidoof, Starly, and Shinx) or you could go around catching new species of Pokémon. This is also a good opportunity to catch a Wurmple, a large Buizel, and to fill Starly's Pokédex entry for the requests.

The possible areas that a No Star recruit can explore

New areas to explore (Optional)

Please feel free to edit this section to add missing information and complete it.
Reason: Floaro Gardens item list

In addition to Aspiration Hill and Horseshoe Plains, you can also explore Floaro Gardens, Sandgem Flats, and part of Lake Verity, but you should definitely keep it to those first three areas for now. Sangem Flats and Lake Verity, as you'll see in the encounter tables below, have significantly higher-level Pokémon, many of which are aggressive and difficult to capture. There is a high risk of blacking out and needing to be rescued. There is also a guardsman on the bridge on Aspiration Hill that prevents you from crossing until you rank up, locking off your access to the rest of the Obsidian Fieldlands.

You can always visit these areas later, when you and your Pokémon are stronger. You should also level your Pokémon up to at least 10 for an upcoming battle.

If you want to keep exploring, don't report to Professor Laventon until you're finished. As soon as you talk to him after earning enough research points, he'll immediately take you back to Jubilife Village.

When you're ready, return back to Professor Laventon at the Fieldlands Camp. Professor Laventon records your research tasks and caught Pokémon in something called a survey report, to keep track of your progress. He gives you money and research points relative to the amount of work that you do. Now that you've gotten much progress on the Pokédex, Laventon suggests that you talk to Cyllene to rank up in the Survey Corps, and you head back to Jubilife Village.

Jubilife Village

The player receiving their first star

Head north into Galaxy Hall, and go into Cyllene's office. Press A to show Cyllene your Pokédex.

You've become a First Star recruit!

You can now use a new type of Poké Ball called a Heavy Ball, and Pokémon up to level 20 will obey you in battle. You'll also earn more money from survey reports. Cyllene commends you for your genuine hard work, and hopes that you continue to keep at it. She hands you recipes for Heavy Balls and Revives, and suggests that you rest for the night.

You eat dinner at The Wallflower with Rei/Akari and Professor Laventon. Laventon congratulates you on receiving your first star. Rei/Akari bring up requests, and mention that requests can come from anywhere, even outside of Jubilife Village. For example, Rei/Akari want you to help them with a request from Mai of the Diamond Clan, because it requires skill in battling.

Head to the training grounds

The next day, Rei/Akari shows up at your door, asking if you have time to help them out. They suggest that you head to the pastures in the east end of the village to change the Pokémon in your party.

Head north to the training grounds when you're ready, and press A to talk to Rei/Akari. They admit to having a partner Pokémon, a Pikachu, but can't quite command it in battle as easily as you can. So, they challenge you to a Pokémon battle to train them!

An example of the symbols next to each move

After defeating Rei/Akari in battle, they feel like they understood Pikachu and were in sync for once, and strive to be as in sync as you are with your Pokémon.

Rei/Akari also mentions that they had heard the Professor mention something called Types, which effect what a Pokémon's strengths or weaknesses are. Types are extremely important in Pokémon, as they can double, halve, or even negate the damage of an attack, so definitely keep them in mind.

In this game, when selecting a move, there will be an icon next to the attack. This is its effectiveness, the strength of the move against a Pokémon's types. If it's a small dot, it's neutral damage (1x). If it's a circle, that means it's super effective (2x). If it's a triangle, that's not very effective (1/2x). If it's a cross or an X, that means it doesn't effect them (0x). These symbols make it so that you don't always have to always worry about what types the enemy Pokémon is weak to. Otherwise, you can use a type chart.

Zisu, the Captain of the Security Corps

The Captain of the Security Corps

Types

The entire time, Zisu, the Captain of the Security Corps, was watching the battle and approaches. She is the local master of Pokémon battling, and she gives you some tips.

Firstly, she mentions that in battle, you can change the properties of a move by using either agile style or strong style. Agile style makes it so that your Pokémon moves faster in the turn order (and can possibly go twice in a row) but weakens the move's power. Strong style is the opposite, making your Pokémon move slower in the turn order but making the attack do much more damage. Either style is a temporary one-turn buff that uses more power points (the amount of times you can use a move). You can apply one of the styles by pressing L or R when selecting the move in battle.

You may not see the option to select a style, but don't worry; a Pokémon slowly gains the ability to use styles on certain moves as they level up. (For example, the above image has the style option for Iron Head, but not for Double-Edge.) Eventually, you can also use certain items to enable your Pokémon to be able to use styles on more moves.

Zisu also mentions that you can ask her to teach your Pokémon new moves, and she'll do so for a small fee. Definitely make use of this, as she can give your Pokémon many of their most powerful moves.

Rei/Akari speak up, and remind you that they asked for your help with the request from Mai last night. It's about time that they meet up with her on Aspiration Hill. You receive a new mission: A Request from Mai.

Go ahead and make any preparations you need to make, then head to the east gate to depart for the Obsidian Fieldlands.

Obsidian Fieldlands

Volo, spooking the player from behind

Mai, one of the wardens of the Diamond Clan

You return to the Fieldlands Camp, when suddenly... you get spooked by Volo from behind! He teaches you about the back strike technique, which increases a Pokémon's catch rate (when throwing a Poké Ball) or stuns it (when sending your Pokémon out for battle). He wishes you well and heads off.

If they aren't healthy already, you should take a rest in the tent to heal your Pokémon. Also, at any point, you can speak with Professor Laventon to return to Jubilife Village.

When you're ready, head down Aspiration Hill and talk to the guardsman on the bridge. Now that you're a First Star rank recruit, he lets you pass and tells you to not let your guard down.

Mai of the Diamond Clan

Continue through the bridge and approach Rei/Akari, who is currently talking to someone. She introduces herself as Mai, one of the wardens of the Diamond Clan, and the one who requested help. She asks if you're confident in your ability to lead your Pokémon in battle, and she shows you that her partner Pokémon is Munchlax.

Then, she challenges you to a battle to see if you're capable!

She commends you for winning the battle and heals your Pokémon. She also hands you 5 Vivichokes, which you can craft into Revives. She explains that she needs help dealing with an alpha Pokémon nearby Deertrack Heights, and your Arc Phone rings again, showing you the way to pursue it.

Then, Mai asks you if you know what the almighty Sinnoh is. The Diamond Clan settled in Hisui to worship the almighty Sinnoh, the creator of time, the world, and the Pokémon that live in it. It's an old tale, and almighty Sinnoh has long since ceased direct contact with most people. However, it still has connections with a few Pokémon, and it's the warden's job to look after them. One of them is currently causing trouble at Deertrack Heights, and Mai wants you to meet her there to learn more.

Reason: Each area's item lists

Before you help out Mai, now that you've crossed the bridge, you have access to nearly the entire map of Obsidian Fieldlands (besides a few islands that you can't reach quite yet). The first five areas you could access before were Aspiration Hill, Horseshoe Plains, Floaro Gardens, Sandgem Flats, and part of Lake Verity. You can refer to this part of the walkthrough for the encounters and items for those areas.

After crossing the bridge, you can reach Grueling Grove, Worn Bridge, Windswept Run, Nature's Pantry, Tidewater Dam, The Heartwood, Grandtree Arena, Oreburrow Tunnel, and Obsidian Falls. If you're trying to find Oreburrow Tunnel, you can throw your Pokémon at a crack in the wall and it'll clear a path for you. You can enter either from the south end of Grueling Grove or the east side of The Heartwood.

The next two story-related areas, Deertrack Path and Deertrack Heights, are covered in the following subsection.

Deertrack Path

Continue through Deertrack Path

When you're ready, continue following the path from the bridge, called Deertrack Path. You'll see torches beside you, if you're going in the right direction.

The tutorial screen of alpha Pokémon

Head to Deertrack Heights

At the top of Deertrack Path is Deertrack Heights. When you reach a fork in the road, take the east path with the stairs heading upward. You'll see Mai at the top, waiting for you.

Approach Mai at the top of the stairs. Professor Laventon comes sprinting by, all the way from the Fieldlands Camp. He wanted to see the alpha Pokémon for himself, and Mai allows it. Mai wanted to pay tribute to a Pokémon that is related to almighty Sinnoh. But instead, she's interrupted by the cry of an alpha Kricketune that's been causing trouble. Mai heals your Pokémon, and wishes you luck with taking it on. Laventon ponders about its size, and Mai explains that alphas are significantly larger and stronger than normal Pokémon.

Approach the Kricketune to battle it (you don't need to throw out a Pokémon).

You can catch most of the static encounters in this game. The game will let you know if you are unable to.

The great Wyrdeer

In battle, you can press Y to show the action order, which shows the order that Pokémon will be taking turns and how often. This is based on factors like their Speed, whether you're using agile or strong style, etc.

Once you've taken out the alpha Kricketune, Mai heals your party again, as a different Pokémon cries out. Up on the cliff is the great Wyrdeer! It jumps down to get a better look, and takes a liking to you. It leaves, and Mai explains that it lets people ride on it if it deems them worthy. Rei/Akari appears, sent by Cyllene. They explain that they can set up another camp site after quelling the alpha Pokémon. Laventon shows concern if it's okay to do this, but Mai reassures him that it's alright as long as you coexist and thrive with the Pokémon. Mai leaves to report back to her superior, and promises to give you a reward when she can.

You've completed A Request from Mai!

Rei/Akari says that if we want to "coexist and thrive" with the Pokémon, we should get to know them better, and that starts with the Pokédex!

Later in the day, the Construction Corps appear and build the camp site, which Laventon dubs the Heights Camp! You can fast travel to this camp at any time, and when you depart from Jubilife Village, you can choose to start from this camp instead.

After a long day, Rei/Akari suggests that you all return to The Wallflower at Jubilife Village.

Jubilife Village

You return to The Wallflower for the evening, and Laventon orders potato mochi. When Beni returns with the food, he reports some grave news—a frenzied Kleavor has attacked many of the Survey Corps team that tried to investigate it. Laventon heard that it had been struck by powerful lightning which caused its behavior, and supposes that there's always a risk of danger for the Survey Corps. Rei/Akari add that even alpha Pokémon aren't close to its power, and Laventon suggests that you rest for the night.

The next day, Rei/Akari greet you in the morning, and tell you to hurry to the commander's office.

The Leaders of the Diamond and Pearl Clans

Adaman, the leader of the Diamond Clan

Irida, the leader of the Pearl Clan

Exit your room. When you're about to leave, you're interrupted by a couple of loud voices arguing about the almighty Sinnoh. One argues that it was the creator of time, while the other argues that it was the creator of space. They angrily storm to Commander Kamado's office. Rei/Akari explain that they were Adaman and Irida, the leaders of the Diamond and Pearl clans, respectively.

Head inside Galaxy Hall and head up to the third floor to reach Commander Kamado's office. When you approach, you overhear Adaman immediately get to the point: the Pearl clan's frenzied Kleavor is causing a lot of harm, but the Diamond clan can't step in or else they run the risk of reigniting war between the clans. Irida adds that the Pearl clan doesn't want to have to take down one of their own noble Pokemon. Then, Kamado acknowledges your presence, and the two leaders kindly introduce themselves, as though they weren't just arguing a few seconds ago.

Kamado proposes a plan: he wants you, as a third party, to observe and study Kleavor before they commit to any decisions. Adaman and Irida agree reluctantly, and comment on the Galaxy Team's use of Poké Balls. Kamado reassures them that Poké Balls are not for controlling, but for working alongside each other, and gives you your order to study Kleavor. You receive a new mission: The Frenzy of the Lord of the Woods. Adaman and Irida wish you luck on your mission and depart. Kamado explains that the Galaxy Expedition Team are the outsiders of Hisui, while the Diamond and Pearl clans are the natives—you must not do anything to ruin the relationships between them. Cyllene comes upstairs and calls for you to meet in her office to discuss the details of the mission.

Where to begin the investigation

Head back down to the first floor and approach Cyllene's desk. Professor Laventon also appears to explain the situation. The Survey Corps are currently unable to catch Kleavor, and has been proving to be extremely aggressive. Cyllene clarifies: the mission is extremely dangerous. Kleavor is one of the noble Pokémon of the Diamond and Pearl clans, which they worship and give offerings to. They believe the Pokémon are related to almighty Sinnoh.

As a possible lead, Laventon begins suggesting that perhaps you should figure out what are their offerings, when suddenly, Mai and Adaman burst into the office. Adaman explains that by traveling through the space-time rift, you may have met the almighty Sinnoh itself, and so he wants you to quell Kleavor's frenzy completely. He explains that the Diamond clan is facing their own similar problem, but he wants to help the Pearl clan as best as he can. Mai explains that you can find Kleavor at Grandtree Arena, and his warden is a boy named Lian. As soon as they're finished explaining, they immediately leave. Rei/Akari suggests that you set off from the Height Camp to reach Grandtree Arena, and prepare to head out.

Approach the exit of Galaxy Hall. Before you can leave, a guardsman named Bagin interrupts you. He can give you an extra slot in your satchel for a fee—however, you'll quickly notice that his prices become significantly more expensive per slot.

Exit Galaxy Hall, and head to the east gate. When you approach the gate to depart, Volo appears and hands you some Super Potions, then leaves to search for some ruins.

When you're ready, prepare to leave for the Heights Camp in the Obsidian Fieldlands.

Obsidian Fieldlands

Grandtree Arena

Head to Grandtree Arena

Depart for the Heights Camp, and make your way into the southwest corner of the map. The easiest way to get there is south through Nature's Pantry, through Tidewater Dam, and into The Heartwood.

From there, look for two orange signs and continue in between them. Approach the boy in the back of the woods.

Lian, one of the wardens of the Pearl Clan

Warden of the noble Kleavor

The boy introduces himself as Lian, the Pearl Clan's warden of Kleavor. He's been instructed by Irida to turn anyone away because it's much too dangerous to approach Kleavor with its current behavior.

If you want to continue pursuing Kleavor, you'll have to get through him first. Face him in battle!

After defeating him, he still suggests that you leave because it's too dangerous. He'd normally give Kleavor an offering of his favorite food, but it's much too aggressive to accept any offerings at all. Then, Irida appears, and convinces Lian that even though the Pearl Clan would rather solve this themselves, it would be best for everyone to let the outsider handle it. Irida and Lian plan to get Kleavor's favorite foods as an offering, and Irida orders you to find a way to quell its frenzy.

You can instant travel by opening your Arc Phone with Minus (-) and pressing X. Then, select a camp to travel to. (Alternatively, you can do the same thing by moving the cursor with the Left Stick and pressing A on a camp marker.)

Return to either camp and report back to Professor Laventon. When you approach, you let him know what occurred at Grandtree Arena and the two of you return to Jubilife Village.
