Wyrdeer is a snow deer-like Pokémon. It has a grey and white body with white spots and eyebrows. The antlers are gold with four spikes extending outwards and one black orb on each. Wyrdeer has a brown nose and black hooves. It has a white mane resembling a beard and a round, white tail. The lower portions of its legs are white with spiky fur on each one.
Wyrdeer is well-beloved by the people in the Hisui region due to its highly-prized fur, which helps protect it from the cold. A special Wyrdeer is also worshiped due to it being one of the 10 ancient Pokémon who received a blessing from Arceus, a Ride Pokémon. The people in Hisui use the Celestica Flute to call for its aid and it resides in Obsidian Fieldlands . By using the orbs on its antlers, Wyrdeer can unleash psychic powers strong enough to distort space, and also create invisible barriers for protection. It also uses the antlers to lead Stantler herds and search for safe paths to travel.[1] Wyrdeer's evolution is the result of Stantler in Hisui further developing their psychic powers in the form of their signature move, Psyshield Bash. Wyrdeer's sturdy legs allow it to gallop and dash across the land, and jump over any obstacle in its way.
The black orbs shine with an uncanny light when the Pokémon is erecting invisible barriers. The fur shed from its beard retains heat well and is a highly useful material for winter clothing.
Game locations
This Pokémon was unavailable prior to Generation VIII.
Wyrdeer may be based on a reindeer, or the Yezo sika deer, a subspecies of the sika deer native to Hokkaido (where Hisui is based on). Much like how Wyrdeer is treasured by Hisuian people because their fur makes for useful clothing material, the Yezo sika deer is considered important to the indigenous Ainu people of Hokkaido — they are hunted for their meat and hide, the latter of which is used to make clothing. Due to its white beard-like mane and eyebrows, it also resembles an elderly man or Santa Claus. Its antlers resemble Shishi-odoshi or radio antennae.
Name origin
Wyrdeer may be a combination of wyrd, weird, and deer.
Ayashishi may be a combination of 怪しい ayashii (strange) and 鹿威し shishiodoshi (a Japanese device traditionally used to scare deer and birds away from gardens).
