Baton Pass (Japanese: バトンタッチ Baton Touch) is a non-damaging Normal-type move introduced in Generation II. It was TR29 in Pokémon Sword and Shield, and is TM132 in Generation IX.

Effect

This move effect may be in need of research.
Reason: Baton Pass passes any of those? Nightmare, Encore, center of attention (for instance, if someone else used Spotlight), Imprison, Taunt, Throat Chop, Torment, Splinters, Power Boost, Power Drop, Guard Boost, Guard Drop
You can discuss this on the talk page.

Baton Pass switches out the user, passing all temporary stat stage increases and decreases on to the Pokémon that replaces it in battle. Baton Pass also passes some volatile status conditions, namely confusion, getting pumped, taking aim, can't escape, Ability suppression, seeding (from Leech Seed or Sappy Seed), Curse, Substitute, Ingrain, Power Trick, Heal Block, Embargo, Perish Song, Magnet Rise, and Aqua Ring. Ability suppression disappears if the replacement Pokémon's ability cannot be suppressed.

Baton Pass passes the effect of Telekinesis. This effect disappears if the replacement Pokémon is Mega Gengar. If a Pokémon inflicts "can't escape" on a target and then uses Baton Pass, the target will no longer be trapped. The effect can be passed only if the Pokémon that can't escape uses Baton Pass.

Baton Pass does not pass non-volatile status conditions, infatuation, drowsiness (from Yawn or G-Max Snooze), a type change, Ability change, a move learned by Mimic, or a transformation (from Transform or Imposter). Even though the Baton Pass user switches out, Pursuit has no additional power or priority against it. It also does not pass Defense Curl's effect of doubling the power of Rollout or Ice Ball, or the effect of Disable (even if the replacement Pokémon knows the disabled move). It does not pass Minimize's tiny sprite, or its effect of causing the user to become more vulnerable to some moves (Stomp, Steamroller, Heat Crash, etc.).

Baton Pass fails if there are no other Pokémon in the user's party that can be switched in in its place.

Generations II to IV

No matter what type of Poké Ball the user was captured in, the animation will always display a normal Poké Ball.

Generation V

The correct type of Poké Ball the user was caught with is now displayed in the animation.

Generation VI

Baton Pass can also be used as part of a Contest Spectacular combination, with the user gaining extra three appeal points if a certain move (Agility, Amnesia, Autotomize, Calm Mind, Cotton Guard, Hone Claws, Nasty Plot, Rock Polish, or Shell Smash) was used in the prior turn.

Generation VII

If powered up by a Normalium Z into Z-Baton Pass, all of the user's lowered stats are reset.

Generation VIII

Baton Pass cannot pass the critical hit rate boosts from G-Max Chi Strike.[1]

In Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team, Baton Pass is a move with 19PP and 100% accuracy. The user targets all other Pokémon in the room and consecutively swaps places with them (assuming it doesn't miss them) in a mostly random order (prioritizing allies before enemies). A Pokémon that stays on a tile they cannot walk on will be warped away. This move is affected by Taunt.

In Explorers of Time, Darkness and Sky, the move's PP has been decreased to 15 and its accuracy to 75%.
