Mt. Coronet (Japanese: テンガンざん Mt. Tengan) is the highest mountain in the Sinnoh region. It is part of a long range of mountains that divide the Sinnoh region in half. Most of it is a deep cave, though there are several above-ground areas, in which it snows constantly.

Caves and entrances are cut out of Mt. Coronet to allow travel between the two sides of the Sinnoh, but contains many other tunnels around the mountain. Mt. Coronet has entrances on Route 207 which leads to Oreburgh City, Route 208 which leads to Hearthome City, Route 211 which leads to Celestic Town, and Route 216 which leads to Snowpoint City. The caves inside the mountain have paths blocked by rocks and boulders. There are several pools of water throughout the cave. After the HMs containing Surf, Strength, Defog, Rock Smash, Rock Climb, and Waterfall are obtained, the mountain is fully navigable.

According to one theory, Mt. Coronet is where the Sinnoh region began. When Arceus created Dialga and Palkia, there was only time and space. The Sinnoh region was shaped around Mt. Coronet by Regigigas. During this violent procedure, Stark Mountain was created and Heatran was formed in lava. Arceus created the Adamant, Lustrous, and Griseous Orbs before falling into a never-ending sleep atop the highest point on Mt. Coronet. This is where Spear Pillar is located, which is the meeting place of Dialga and Palkia, as well as the portal to the Distortion World.

Despite, in the games, having to travel through Mt. Coronet to arrive at Hearthome City, Ash and his friends have not been shown journeying through the mountain as of yet. However, in Nosing 'Round The Mountain!, they found Alan and Ash battled him at the Mt. Coronet area, because Alan wanted his Nosepass to evolve. Ash and his friends meet a boy called Alan who has a Nosepass. Ash asks for a battle with him and he agrees. The two go and have a real battle, but the battle is then called off by Alan because he wants to battle near Mt. Coronet so his Nosepass can evolve. The mountain has however been seen in the background of some episodes set in areas near the mountain.

In DP110 and DP111, Team Galactic created a giant beam with the Spear Key from Iron Island, in an attempt to locate the Spear Pillar, above Mt. Coronet. Ash battles with Mars and destroys the machine allowing Team Galactic to scan only 60% of Mt. Coronet in their search for the Spear Pillar.

Trivia

  • Mt. Coronet is the only location in Sinnoh where the elusive Pokémon Feebas can be caught. It only appears in four fishing spots in the basement, which change every day.
  • Mt. Coronet emits a special magnetic field. As a result, Magneton and Nosepass can only be evolved into Magnezone and Probopass, respectively, by leveling them up here.
    • The two Pokémon obtainable by evolving in Mt. Coronet have three magnetic units, according to the Pokédex - Probopass has three mini-noses, and Magnezone is made up of three units. They also share both of their abilities.

Name Orgin

Mt. Coronet is named after a Coronet, a small crown consisting of ornaments fixed on a metal ring, meaning that Mt. Coronet could be the crown of the Sinnoh. Coronet Peak is also a snowy mountain range in New Zealand.
