Skills (Japanese: 能力 Skill) are a characteristic each Pokémon has in the game Pokémon Shuffle that are similar to Abilities in the core series games. Every species of Pokémon has at least one skill, and may only have one skill at a time. Pokémon that have multiple skills may only switch their current skill when a Skill Swapper List of items in Pokémon Shuffle is used on it. When a Pokémon Mega Evolves, its regular skill is replaced by its Mega Effect instead. Skills only have a chance of activating on the first match in a combo. | |||

From Versions 1.3.10 (3DS)/1.6.4 (Mobile) onwards, every Pokémon's skill is able to be leveled up, with a maximum level of 5. Depending on the skill, each level either increases the chance that the skill will activate or increases the skill's damage multiplier when the skill is activated. | |||
{| class=" | Skills are leveled up by filling the Skill Gauge. The List of items in Pokémon Shuffle Skill Booster S, M, and L can be used on any Pokémon to add 3, 10, or 30 points (respectively) to their Skill Gauge. These enhancements can be obtained from the Resource event or as prizes. | ||
A personalized Skill Booster can also add 1 point to a specific Pokémon's Skill Gauge. These are only dropped by Pokémon in specific stages (if that Pokémon has previously been caught), and are immediately applied to that Pokémon after the battle if the stage is cleared. | |||

==Skill activation mechanics== | |||
A skill can only activate on the first match of a combo. To activate another skill, the current combo must end, which occurs when all icons on the board have settled. | |||
;Tie-breakers | |||
* If two different Pokémon are matched by a move, then the Pokémon whose icon the player "grabbed" to make the move will be used for skill activation. | |||
;Shape-based skills | |||
For skills that require their activation matches to have a specific shape, namely Cross Attack(+), L-Boost, and T-Boost, the first two matches of the combo receive the damage bonus. | |||
* When a match of this shape is made, the line of largest size will be used for skill activation. If the lines are of equal size, then the horizontal line will be used. | |||
* For Mega Evolution, the intersecting icon of the shape is counted twice. | |||
;Type-based skills | |||
For skills that boost the damage of a specific type (such as Poison Pact), they will only activate if the player's team has at least one Pokémon of the corresponding type (in this case Poison). | |||
* Non-support Pokémon that spawn among falling icons as if they were supports, count towards this requirement. | |||
* Non-support Pokémon that do not spawn among falling icons, but instead appear only in initial board layouts or as disruptions, do not count towards fulfilling this requirement. | |||
;Multiple effects | |||
If a skill has multiple effects, then the skill will only activate if all of its effects are able to activate - in other words, activation is treated as all-or-nothing. | |||
* For example: Block Shot removes two blocks and increases damage. Therefore, it will only activate if at least one block is present on the board to be removed. If no blocks are present, then no blocks can be removed, so Block Shot will not activate - which also means its extra damage will not be dealt. | |||
;Status conditions | |||
Status condition#Pokémon Shuffle | |||
This all-or-nothing rule also applies to skills that inflict status conditions, though with additional restrictions: | |||
* Certain types are immune to certain status conditions. If a skill would inflict a status that the foe is immune to, then that skill will never activate. | |||
* The foe can only have one status condition at a time. Skills that would inflict a status will never activate as long as any current status persists. | |||
* The skills Mind Zap and Prank will not activate if the foe has a status condition. | |||
Further, a foe's current status condition will tick down its duration after a move is made, but before the second hit onwards of the move's resulting combo. This can result in the status effect being active for the first match of the combo, but being inactive for the subsequent matches in the same combo. | |||
* This can lead to decreased damage - for instance, if Sleep Combo is triggered on the last move that an enemy is asleep, then only the first match of the combo receives the increased damage, as the foe will be awake from the second match onwards. | |||
===Order of operations=== | |||
Once any tie-breaker has been applied for a move, effects occur as follows: | |||
;Before first match: | |||
* Unbreakable-blocks that have reached their 5-turn expiration will disappear. Adjacent breakable-rocks will also disappear, as will any barriers on the disappearing blocks or rocks. | |||
;First match: | |||
* The first match (as determined by tie-breaker, if needed) will attempt to activate its skill, using the current board and enemy state. | |||
** Note that since some disruptions may have disappeared before this, some skills that depend on disruptions might not be able to activate. (example: Block Shot, but the last blocks on the board just expired). | |||
** If the first match's skill removes Pokémon icons that would have been used for the second match, then the second match is cancelled. | |||
* If the first match was of a Mega-Evolved Pokémon, then its Mega Effect will trigger. | |||
** If a shape-match of Mega-Evolved icons was made, then the second match is cancelled. | |||
** If the Mega Effect removes Pokémon icons that would have been used for the second match, then the second match is cancelled. | |||
* The first match removes barriers, black clouds, and rocks, if applicable. | |||
** If barriers removed would cause icons for the second match to not be grounded, and the second match is not shape-based, then the second match is cancelled. | |||
* Damage (with applicable boosts) is dealt. | |||
* The disruption countdown on the foe will tick down 1 turn. | |||
** This tick-down will not occur if the first match triggered the Mega Evolution animation, or if the foe has an incapacitating status effect (Sleep, Freeze, Paralysis, or Disruption Delay). | |||
** Since an incapacitating status can be inflicted earlier in the same turn, it is therefore possible to endlessly prevent the disruption counter from ticking down, assuming a status effect is re-applied the turn after it wears off. | |||
* If the foe already had a status effect before this turn, then that status effect's duration will tick down 1 turn. | |||
;Second match: | |||
* If a shape-match of Pokémon icons was made, and the first match triggered the Mega Evolution animation, then the second match will trigger the Mega Effect. | |||
* If a shape-match skill was triggered, the damage boost will be applied to this match's damage. | |||
The third match onwards deals damage according to applicable boosts (type effectiveness, match size, combo-damage skills, combo count, enemy status effect, Attack Power ↑ item). | |||
After the combo ends, any applicable disruptions from the enemy will occur. | |||
* In timed stages, the enemy will not wait for the combo to end, and will disrupt as soon as a move decrements their countdown to 0. | |||
==List of skills== | |||
| |||
The following list of skills is sorted by the order used within the game in the Search function of the Pokémon List. | |||
The chance column shows the chance of the skill activating when three, four, or five icons are matched (respectively) at Skill Level 1. Should a match of six occur (generally as a result of a disruption), the game treats it the same as a match of five for the skill's activation chance (which includes the activation of Power of 5 and Power of 5+). If a skill has a damage multiplier listed in the effect column, and that Skill's Level bonus also changes the damage multiplier, the Skill Level bonus replaces the effect column's multiplier (with the exceptions of Damage Streak, Non-Stop+, Swat, and Brute Force). | |||
For a sortable list of which Pokémon use each skill, please see the full Pokémon list. | |||

* The skills Skill (Shuffle), Skill (Shuffle), and Skill (Shuffle) can now remove Pokémon that fall into the Puzzle Area like Support Pokémon. | |||
* It fixes a glitch that caused matches shaped like an "L" or upside-down "T" to activate skills twice. | |||
* Ditto no longer works as a "wild card" when matching Pokémon icons. This was done in response to players hacking in the Pokémon to get high scores in Competitive Stages. | |||

* Demolish (exclusive to Buzzwole) and Beast Power (exclusive to Ultra Beasts) are the only two skills that require a total of 61 skill points to max. | |||
* In the English version, the naming of the skill "Skill (Shuffle)" does not correspond to its lesser version, "Skill (Shuffle)". This issue only occurs in English, as all other languages maintain naming consistency between the two skills. | |||
* The skill "Skill (Shuffle)" is named to have no type in English and Japanese, but in French and Spanish it is the opposite, where it is named to have all types. | |||
* Of the skills that cost 200 skill points to max (ignoring unused skills): | |||
** Up, Up, Up is the only skill not exclusive to one Pokémon. | |||
** Try Hard is the only skill that requires a Skill Swapper. Additionally, all of the other skills are held by Pokémon that cannot use Skill Swappers. | |||
* The highest-possible single-hit damage is 1,447,194, from using a 10%-of-HP drain skill against level 999 of the Latios escalation battle. | |||
** Ignoring drain skills, the highest damage would be 81,000, from Infernape or Litwick (125 attack power) activating the skill Final Effort (36×) with a match of 6 (3×) against a foe that takes super-effective damage (2×) and that is Burned or Spooked (1.5×), with the Attack Power ↑ item active (2×). | |||

Skills (Japanese: 能力 Skill) are a characteristic each Pokémon has in the game Pokémon Shuffle that are similar to Abilities in the core series games. Every species of Pokémon has at least one skill, and may only have one skill at a time. Pokémon that have multiple skills may only switch their current skill when a Skill Swapper enhancement is used on it. When a Pokémon Mega Evolves, its regular skill is replaced by its Mega Effect instead. Skills only have a chance of activating on the first match in a combo.
Skill Level
From Versions 1.3.10 (3DS)/1.6.4 (Mobile) onwards, every Pokémon's skill is able to be leveled up, with a maximum level of 5. Depending on the skill, each level either increases the chance that the skill will activate or increases the skill's damage multiplier when the skill is activated.
Skills are leveled up by filling the Skill Gauge. The enhancements Skill Booster S, M, and L can be used on any Pokémon to add 3, 10, or 30 points (respectively) to their Skill Gauge. These enhancements can be obtained from the Skill Booster M Stage! or as prizes.
A personalized Skill Booster can also add 1 point to a specific Pokémon's Skill Gauge. These are only dropped by Pokémon in specific stages (if that Pokémon has previously been caught), and are immediately applied to that Pokémon after the battle if the stage is cleared.
Item | Skill points granted | Notes |
---|---|---|
Personalized Skill Booster | 1 point |
|
Skill Booster S | 3 points | Can be used from the bag while editing the active team. |
Skill Booster M | 10 points | Can be used from the bag while editing the active team. |
Skill Booster L | 30 points | Can be used from the bag while editing the active team. |
The table below describes the groups that Pokémon fall into, according to the total number of points they require to reach each Skill Level.

Skill activation mechanics
A skill can only activate on the first match of a combo. To activate another skill, the current combo must end, which occurs when all icons on the board have settled.
- Tie-breakers
- If two different Pokémon are matched by a move, then the Pokémon whose icon the player "grabbed" to make the move will be used for skill activation.
- Shape-based skills
For skills that require their activation matches to have a specific shape, namely Cross Attack(+), L-Boost, and T-Boost, the first two matches of the combo receive the damage bonus.
- When a match of this shape is made, the line of largest size will be used for skill activation. If the lines are of equal size, then the horizontal line will be used.
- For Mega Evolution, the intersecting icon of the shape is counted twice.
- Type-based skills
For skills that boost the damage of a specific type (such as Poison Pact), they will only activate if the player's team has at least one Pokémon of the corresponding type (in this case Poison).
- Non-support Pokémon that spawn among falling icons as if they were supports, count towards this requirement.
- Non-support Pokémon that do not spawn among falling icons, but instead appear only in initial board layouts or as disruptions, do not count towards fulfilling this requirement.
- Multiple effects
If a skill has multiple effects, then the skill will only activate if all of its effects are able to activate - in other words, activation is treated as all-or-nothing.
- For example: Block Shot removes two blocks and increases damage. Therefore, it will only activate if at least one block is present on the board to be removed. If no blocks are present, then no blocks can be removed, so Block Shot will not activate - which also means its extra damage will not be dealt.
- Status conditions
- Main article: Status condition → Pokémon Shuffle
This all-or-nothing rule also applies to skills that inflict status conditions, though with additional restrictions:
- Certain types are immune to certain status conditions. If a skill would inflict a status that the foe is immune to, then that skill will never activate.
- The foe can only have one status condition at a time. Skills that would inflict a status will never activate as long as any current status persists.
- The skills Mind Zap and Prank will not activate if the foe has a status condition.
Further, a foe's current status condition will tick down its duration after a move is made, but before the second hit onwards of the move's resulting combo. This can result in the status effect being active for the first match of the combo, but being inactive for the subsequent matches in the same combo.
- This can lead to decreased damage - for instance, if Sleep Combo is triggered on the last move that an enemy is asleep, then only the first match of the combo receives the increased damage, as the foe will be awake from the second match onwards.
Order of operations
Once any tie-breaker has been applied for a move, effects occur as follows:
- Before first match
- Unbreakable-blocks that have reached their 5-turn expiration will disappear. Adjacent breakable-rocks will also disappear, as will any barriers on the disappearing blocks or rocks.
- First match
- The first match (as determined by tie-breaker, if needed) will attempt to activate its skill, using the current board and enemy state.
- Note that since some disruptions may have disappeared before this, some skills that depend on disruptions might not be able to activate. (example: Block Shot, but the last blocks on the board just expired).
- If the first match's skill removes Pokémon icons that would have been used for the second match, then the second match is cancelled.
- If the first match was of a Mega-Evolved Pokémon, then its Mega Effect will trigger.
- If a shape-match of Mega-Evolved icons was made, then the second match is cancelled.
- If the Mega Effect removes Pokémon icons that would have been used for the second match, then the second match is cancelled.
- The first match removes barriers, black clouds, and rocks, if applicable.
- If barriers removed would cause icons for the second match to not be grounded, and the second match is not shape-based, then the second match is cancelled.
- Damage (with applicable boosts) is dealt.
- The disruption countdown on the foe will tick down 1 turn.
- This tick-down will not occur if the first match triggered the Mega Evolution animation, or if the foe has an incapacitating status effect (Sleep, Freeze, Paralysis, or Disruption Delay).
- Since an incapacitating status can be inflicted earlier in the same turn, it is therefore possible to endlessly prevent the disruption counter from ticking down, assuming a status effect is re-applied the turn after it wears off.
- If the foe already had a status effect before this turn, then that status effect's duration will tick down 1 turn.
- Second match
- If a shape-match of Pokémon icons was made, and the first match triggered the Mega Evolution animation, then the second match will trigger the Mega Effect.
- If a shape-match skill was triggered, the damage boost will be applied to this match's damage.
The third match onwards deals damage according to applicable boosts (type effectiveness, match size, combo-damage skills, combo count, enemy status effect, Attack Power ↑ item).
After the combo ends, any applicable disruptions from the enemy will occur.
- In timed stages, the enemy will not wait for the combo to end, and will disrupt as soon as a move decrements their countdown to 0.
List of skills

Trivia
- The official website had images showing Manaphy using Stabilize. The equivalent images on the Japanese site show it using its actual skill, Swap+.
- Demolish (exclusive to Buzzwole) and Beast Power (exclusive to Ultra Beasts) are the only two skills that require a total of 61 skill points to max.
- In the English version, the naming of the skill "Non Stop+" does not correspond to its lesser version, "Damage Streak". This issue only occurs in English, as all other languages maintain naming consistency between the two skills.
- The skill "Typeless Combo" is named to have no type in English and Japanese, but in French and Spanish it is the opposite, where it is named to have all types.
- Of the skills that cost 200 skill points to max (ignoring unused skills):
- Up, Up, Up is the only skill not exclusive to one Pokémon.
- Try Hard is the only skill that requires a Skill Swapper. Additionally, all of the other skills are held by Pokémon that cannot use Skill Swappers.
- The highest-possible single-hit damage is 1,447,194, from using a 10%-of-HP drain skill against level 999 of the Latios escalation battle.
- Ignoring drain skills, the highest damage would be 81,000, from Infernape or Litwick (125 attack power) activating the skill Final Effort (36×) with a match of 6 (3×) against a foe that takes super-effective damage (2×) and that is Burned or Spooked (1.5×), with the Attack Power ↑ item active (2×).
