Sand Veil increases the evasion of a Pokémon by 20% in a {{weather|sandstorm}} and if on a Pokémon whose type does not already, grants immunity to damage taken from sandstorms.
During a {{weather|sandstorm}}, the accuracy of any move used against a Pokémon with this Ability is modified by a factor of 4/5 (approximated as a factor of 3277/4096 since Generation V). A Pokémon with this Ability will take no damage from the sandstorm if it otherwise would.

In [[Generation V]], Sand Veil lowers the accuracy threshold (user accuracy/target evasion) by 20% resulting in an overall 25% boost to evasion — not 20% as stated in game.

Sand Veil (Japanese: すながくれ Hidden in Sand) is an Ability introduced in Generation III.

Effect

In battle

During a sandstorm, the accuracy of any move used against a Pokémon with this Ability is modified by a factor of 4/5 (approximated as a factor of 3277/4096 since Generation V). A Pokémon with this Ability will take no damage from the sandstorm if it otherwise would.

Outside of battle

From Pokémon Emerald onwards, if a Pokémon with Sand Veil is in the first place in the party (even if fainted) in an area with a sandstorm (such as Route 228 in Sinnoh), the chance of encountering a wild Pokémon is decreased by 50%.

Generation VIII

This Ability appears to have no effect on encounter rate in Pokémon Sword and Shield.

Generation IX

This Ability appears to have no effect on encounter rate in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
