Gible (Japanese: フカマル Fukamaru) is a dual-type Dragon/Ground Pokémon.

It evolves into Gabite starting at level 24, who evolves into Garchomp starting at level 48.

Biology

Physiology

Gible is a small, pudgy dragon with a big mouth filled with sharp teeth.

It is dark blue, with a red underbelly that covers its abdomen to the bottoms of its jaws. Gible has two horns that resemble jet or plane engines, each with a light blue stripe in the middle. It has a single light blue stripe on its backs.

Gible is coldblooded.

Gender differences

A male has a cut on his dorsal fin, while the female does not. This may signify that male Gible fight more, leaving scars.

Special abilities

Gible appear to be good diggers, making deep holes for homes in caverns. They seem to be playful and enjoy play-fighting with other members of their species. The have tremendously strong jaws that they use to bite enemies. However, when biting, they hurt themselves.

Behavior

Gible hide in their holes and wait for prey to pass by. They occasionally hold dare competitions with each other which can put them in danger. When they bite, they hurt themselves out of clumsiness.

Habitat

Gible lives in tunnels it constructs inside warm caves. It prefers heat similar to that of a tropical climate.

Diet

Main article: Pokémon food

They are most likely carnivores. However, they are sometimes found with the Haban Berry. A specific Gible owned by Ash has been seen eating metal, rocks, and wood, though it's unknown if it's just that specific Gible or a diet for the species as a whole.

In the anime

File:Gible anime.png
Gible in the anime

Gible made a cameo in the movie The Rise of Darkrai where it was battling a Bronzor, and again as one of the victims to Darkrai's Dark Void. A balloon shaped like a Gible also appeared in the movie.

Gible made its debut anime appearance in A Rivalry to Gible On!, where one was caught by Khoury.

A second Gible appeared in DP156. This Gible tried to learn Draco Meteor with the help of Ash and friends, and kept failing to use it and succeeding only once. It then started to follow them by the end of the episode. It appeared again in DP157, where Ash captured it.

Trivia

  • Gible's family is the only family of Template:Type2 Pokémon that retain the same typing throughout their entire evolutionary chain.
    • Gible is also the only first-stage dual-typed Dragon-type.
  • The Gible evolutionary line made its anime debuts in reverse order of evolution, Garchomp appearing first in Top-Down Training, Gabite appearing second in Another One Gabites the Dust, and Gible appearing last in A Rivalry to Gible On!.

Origin

Appearance-wise, Gible seems like a cross between a European dragon and a shark.

Name origin

Fukamaru may be a combination of 鱶 fuka, shark, and 丸 maru, round. Gible may be a combination of ground and nibble.

In other languages

  • German: Kaumalat - From kauen (chew).
