Welcome to Bulbapedia, Cold!

By creating your account you are now able to edit pages, join discussions, and expand the community-driven Pokémon encyclopedia. Before you jump in, here are some ground rules:

  • Be nice to everyone. It's in the code of conduct.
  • Make good edits. Preview them before you save to make sure they're perfect the first time around.
  • Use wikicode and link templates when adding content to a page.
  • Use proper grammar and spelling, and read the manual of style.
  • You can't create a userpage until you've added to the encyclopedia. It's a privilege. See the userspace policy.
  • Use talk pages to resolve editing disputes. Don't "edit war," or constantly re-edit/undo the same thing on a page.
  • If you have a question about something, be proactive. Take a look at our FAQ. If you're still stuck, ask for help. The staff won't bite.
  • Sign all talk page posts with four tildes (~~~~). This will turn into your name and the time you wrote the comment.
  • For more handy links, see the welcome portal.
Thank you, and have a good time editing here!

Thank you

Thank you for the edit to my parties page. :) Tacopill (talk) 03:23, 13 December 2013 (UTC)

Then why link to the page without prefix "Shipping:".--Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 13:40, 12 January 2014 (UTC)

It's a guideline, mainspace pages shouldn't link to the Shipping: namespace. Blue, Diamond, and Pearl are examples of other disambiguation pages that link to shipping redirects rather than the pages themselves.--Cold (talk) 19:59, 12 January 2014 (UTC)

Thank you for fixing that typo I made. LittleOmu (talk) 19:26, 18 January 2014 (UTC)

Removed revision

I see you reverted what was presumably vandalism made to the Dome and Helix Fossils page, by a user known as "THEHELIX". While I have an idea of what it said (praise helix!) for some reason the revision was removed from the history, so I can't see it. What did it say?

Also, if you are an admin, please consider restoring it. I of course don't mean putting the vandalism back, but rather putting it back in the article's history, so if anyone else is curious they can see. There's really no reason to remove a revision from an article's history unless it contains someone's personal information or something like that. (Or maybe copyrighted content, if the owners of the wiki are worried about being sued.)

Flarn2006 (talk) 09:20, 5 May 2014 (UTC)

That was a while ago... I don't remember exactly, but I think it was just a generic "helix is god" message, like you said. Nothing harmful, just didn't belong on the wiki. There were several similar edits to various pages back when TPP Red was happening. To address your second point, I'm not an admin, so I don't know if there's a guideline for removing revisions, but from what I've seen most instances of vandalism are deleted, especially when containing vulgarity/explicit content.--Cold (talk) 21:01, 5 May 2014 (UTC)

If you're going to revert someone (twice) for including obvious spam onto pages, make absolutely sure to leave that person a talk page message letting them know what they did wrong. -- MAGNEDETH 18:20, 16 August 2014 (UTC)

That's alright, everyone makes mistakes. Hope I didn't come across as hostile, I just wanted to make sure we were on the same page before doing anything.--Cold (talk) 20:47, 9 December 2014 (UTC)

I tried to remove that STAB at the same time after the original edit, I guess you beat me. Can you check Skrelp if you have one handy, however? I can breed one, but that's the only one I'm uncertain of now; every remaining fully evolved specimen (and everything else I could check that is NOT edited) cannot learn Dive, so Skrelp is the last one. CycloneGU (talk) 00:40, 27 December 2014 (UTC)

Actually, maybe I don't need that after all; I found this saying Skrelp can learn Surf, Waterfall, and Dive - which makes sense as it's a Water type as a Skrelp, and changes to Dragon upon evolution (hence losing the STAB). I'll breed one to verify it myself before editing at its page since X doesn't have them for catching and simply trading over, but I'll include it in the Dive edit right now. CycloneGU (talk) 00:45, 27 December 2014 (UTC)
Alright. I wouldn't have been much help anyway, I haven't even opened my copy of Omega Ruby yet :P--Cold (talk) 00:58, 27 December 2014 (UTC)
Haha, well. Spoiler alert: after you get the National Dex, it's one of the DexNav exclusives from 105-109, so you'll get it. If you have Alpha Sapphire, you get Clauncher instead, but X has that, so I had it covered. CycloneGU (talk) 01:32, 27 December 2014 (UTC)

Just a quick note: Fling was a "Tough" move (with 1 appeal) in Super Contests, but OR/AS uses Contest Spectacular information, where Fling is a "Cute" move with 3 appeal. You had edited at Mawile to show it as "Tough" with 3 appeal, mixing the two. Didn't want to create a new section, just pointing it out. =) Rest of the chart was good, I was just refacing the chart from my template since I had to add the XY and ORAS tags anyway and my reface caught that by chance. CycloneGU (talk) 02:30, 2 January 2015 (UTC)

I actually didn't add most of that contest info, that was Bikini Miltank. All I did was re-add the TM information for Rest and Attract, which I assumed were removed in error.--Cold (talk) 03:08, 2 January 2015 (UTC)
Oh, my apologies if I misread your edit content there. It was just a friendly note in any case. No harm done.
Once I finish the Hoenn group, I'll probably be at the point that I can start checking all of the TMs on everyone after temporarily utilizing an Unlock All TMs code (and eventually reverting back to before the unlock using the same cheat device). I figure once I enter the Hall of Fame I don't need to keep everyone, and can use my boxes just for research purposes, so will group them as such. I will find any odd changes. =D CycloneGU (talk) 03:30, 2 January 2015 (UTC)

So that's how you do it. What about Swablu? I don't think it would be proper to refer to a Mega Evolution of Swablu, but since it's not a final evolution we could likely get away with it there? CycloneGU (talk) 22:53, 2 January 2015 (UTC)

Not sure, but all the other applicable pages (Charmander, Charmeleon, Treecko, Grovyle, Buneary) just leave it as "evolution".--Cold (talk) 23:04, 2 January 2015 (UTC)
Then we'll leave it per those pages! I do wish there was a way to denote that a Pokémon is the final evolution, however, as there will not be italics used on any page that does NOT have a Mega Evolution, and therefore that line could technically be eliminated from a lot of footers with such a trigger. CycloneGU (talk) 23:21, 2 January 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for the help cleaning up whatever little mistakes I leave behind (such as those at Nuzleaf and Shiftry. I try to get all of those emphasis things right, but sometimes I either accidentally remove one - or leave one to be removed untouched - in my Notepad editing without realizing it and don't catch it in the preview (especially if I do more than one chart at once, where my eyes are on the contest data to make sure it's all filled out), so it's helpful having a second pair of eyes checking afterwards in case I miss it. =) CycloneGU (talk) 23:06, 6 January 2015 (UTC)

On these. Counter doesn't get a STAB at all? Noticed that edit at Meditite and Medicham. CycloneGU (talk) 19:25, 7 January 2015 (UTC)
Nope, Counter (and Mirror Coat/Metal Burst) deals a fixed amount of damage based on the opponent's move. Same reason why stuff like Bide/Final Gambit/Seismic Toss etc. don't get STAB.--Cold (talk) 20:34, 7 January 2015 (UTC)

Just to follow up on the edits to Shadow Ball:

  • Hoopa Confined is Psychic/Ghost and gets STAB on Psychic and Ghost type moves.
  • Hoopa Unbound is Psychic/Dark and gets STAB on Psychic and Dark type moves.

Shadow Ball is a Ghost type move, and you added STAB for it on Hoopa Unbound. It actually does not get STAB, but after returning to Hoopa Confined it gets STAB again. I did the same thing on Fling and Thief only giving STAB to the Unbound forme. CycloneGU (talk) 18:58, 13 January 2015 (UTC)

I wasn't implying that those forms got STAB. I used italics, not boldface, to denote that the other form gets STAB instead. Fling and Thief in particular are already italicized on Hoopa's page. Arceus and Darmanitan are two Pokémon that do this on their applicable TM entries as well.--Cold (talk) 19:54, 13 January 2015 (UTC)
Oh, my bad. I guess that would be a proper notation. CycloneGU (talk) 00:56, 14 January 2015 (UTC)

Thanks about the tip for underscores. I wasn't sure and I was afraid of testing because I don't want to flood the history page with unnecessary changes. Edwinbanana (talk) 17:50, 29 January 2015 (UTC)

No problem. In the future, if you want to test something like that, you can use the "Show preview" button located next to the save button, which will let you see the changes you've made without saving them.--Cold (talk) 18:30, 29 January 2015 (UTC)

ORAS Mom Edit

Thanks for the verification, I never really talked to Mom until after I obtained Latios through a trade on my AS cart. X3 --C. Wallace Shout out! 04:47, 20 February 2015 (UTC)

Blurb errors

In addition to reverting the edits, you can point out on the trivia/errors section (whichever works for you) that there was an error in the blurb, kind of like what I did with Harley Rides Again. PattyMan 18:56, 22 February 2015 (UTC)

The ideal method of dealing with blurb errors is Support Ticketing Pokémon.com to have them fixed. MaverickNate 19:06, 22 February 2015 (UTC)

I knew the parameter was wrong, but I didn't know how to fix it.

That's why I left it that way. (That Cinnabar Island thing) I couldn't find anything in Frequently asked questions. Unowninator (talk) 03:52, 8 April 2016 (UTC)

I see, you have my apologies then. If you're ever unsure about how to use a template, the template page or talk page may explain how. You can also look for examples of the template on other pages (this is how I learn new templates 90% of the time), or even try to decipher the template's source code.
In the future, I highly recommend making sure you know how to use a template properly beforehand instead of leaving it for someone else to fix. It was good of you to bring attention to something that needed fixing, but leaving errors in articles, even for just a few minutes, is something that should be avoided as much as possible.--Cold (talk) 05:31, 8 April 2016 (UTC)

Gen VI redirects/pkmn template

The pkmn template isn't really meant for games. If you want to keep fixing those "version" redirects, it might be easiest to just write it out (like [[Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire|Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire]]. It's unfortunate, but our various game templates aren't quite up to snuff, especially with Gen VI. Tiddlywinks (talk) 17:32, 10 April 2016 (UTC)

Yeah, I was hesitant to use {{pkmn}} at first, but I saw it used that way on a lot of other pages (and on some of the pages I was editing as well). I'm guessing that's something that'll be addressed if/when the game link templates are updated. I'll stop using it like that.--Cold (talk) 17:44, 10 April 2016 (UTC)

Paras, Parasect, Jolteon trivia

Given the egregious overpowering of the psychic type in Gen. 1, I think this is interesting. I suggest maybe moving it to the balancing issues section, albeit condensed. Fushigi na Alakazam (talk) 20:07, 18 April 2016 (UTC)

You're right in that it would probably fit better in that section than in the trivia sections. I'm just not sure it's necessary - the section already mentions most Bug-learning Pokémon to be Poison-type and I don't know if we need to specifically note which ones aren't. You're welcome to bring it up on the talk page if you want, the main reason I removed it from the Pokémon pages was because it didn't belong in trivia.--Cold (talk) 20:38, 18 April 2016 (UTC)
Yes, I agree it was misplaced in the trivia, thanks for clearing that up. It just intrigued me that given the fact that some bugs weren't even part poison, there were still only three Pokémon that could do this. Perhaps though there's no relevant place to put such a nugget of wisdom. Fushigi na Alakazam (talk) 07:56, 19 April 2016 (UTC)

Gravity Page Confirmation

Hi there, I just wanted to double check about the reversion you made on the Gravity page. Since the section that mentions High Jump Kick is for an older generation when it was spelled Hi Jump Kick, the old spelling would make sense. My logic for changing it to the current spelling was that other pages seem to use current spellings when discussing older generations. The pages for Extreme Speed, Ancient Power and Soft-Boiled are good examples. Anyway, it's a small formatting issue, and it's my first edit on the site so I will leave the final word to you! TenebrousRook (talk) 06:18, 16 May 2016 (UTC)

Well, I believe that High Jump Kick was formatted as Hi Jump Kick in Generation IV, and so it is written as its previous spelling under 'In Generation IV' section. Harryghost (talk) 07:53, 16 May 2016 (UTC)
Soft-Boiled's page uses old spellings for old generations, but you got me on Extreme Speed and Ancient Power. I suppose I'll offer Smelling Salts and High Jump Kick itself as counter-examples, we do seem to have an inconsistency on which spelling is preferred though. I'll ask an admin about it when I have time.--Cold (talk) 13:27, 16 May 2016 (UTC)

Changed my Edit

I was told that the reason Pokemon such as Magnezone are not in the Sinnoh Handbook because they are exclusive to Platinum, However Magnezone Etc. are in Diamond and Pearl and are not in the Sinnoh Handbook. So why can't I say that they are excluded from this handbook. - unsigned comment from 4Corry (talkcontribs)

Tiddlywinks answered you pretty well on the article's talk page. Sorry if my edit summary wasn't clear. The handbook doesn't cover Sinnoh Pokémon as a whole, but rather the ones present in the regional Pokédex, which at the time excluded Pokémon like Magnezone. So it made sense that those Pokémon didn't have entries in the book.
And just a tip for the future, when leaving messages on a talk page, sign your comments by typing ~~~~ to leave a signature and timestamp. Thanks!--Cold (talk) 04:22, 18 August 2016 (UTC)

Elemental Monkeys edit

Very true. Scientifically, they are not monkeys, but it's semantics, as colloquially they are. I accept the revision, however I am curious about the inclusion of Chimchar and it being based off of a chimpanzee (is it not?), which is not a monkey. Just curious of that inclusion. -Uncleben85 (talk) 18:31, 4 January 2017 (UTC)

Yeah, I was hesitant to revert at first since I know people tend to refer to apes as monkeys in everyday language. In the end I figured the article should just avoid the possible inaccuracy, especially since the list isn't necessarily all-inclusive. I wasn't actually aware that Chimchar was based on a chimpanzee until you pointed it out :P, but both its evolutions are based on monkeys and its origin section mentions baboons anyhow, so hopefully that's enough to qualify it. If necessary it could be replaced with Monferno/Infernape but I feel that having Chimchar there represents the entire line better, if that makes any sense.--Cold (talk) 23:33, 5 January 2017 (UTC)

Hello. On the page for Unown, you removed my trivia because non-legendary/mythical exceptions aren't allowed. These exceptions have happened and I've seen them quite frequently. For example: On Slaking's page, it says in the trivia: "Outside of Legendary and Mythical Pokémon and Mega Evolution, Slaking has the highest base stat total of all Pokémon." So it does happen and I would like to know why my Trivia is not similar for Unown. Thanks. The IceCream (talk) 18:54, 6 January 2018 (UTC)

(Sorry to butt in on your page, Cold, but I went ahead and removed the Slaking point so I thought I should explain.) Many people try to add things that don't pass policy, and if someone doesn't notice the addition on the Recent Changes or their Watchlist, it can easily slip through the cracks and remain on the page indefinitely. I've removed that point from Slaking, and if you ever notice anything else like that, feel free to remove it yourself or let me know and I'll do it! Thanks! Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 20:00, 6 January 2018 (UTC)

Ok. So, is it true that trainers in gen 1 will always send out Pokemon in a specific order as opposed to the later games base on type matchup (which is not always the same). For instance, Green will send by Pidgeot - Alakazam - Rhydon - Gyarados - Arcanine - Venusaur but in FRLG he will send in Venusaur if palyer has a water type, Alakazam if Poison, etc. RubyLeafGreenCrystal (talk) 02:00, 31 January 2018 (UTC)

My main concern is what you mean by "trainers" - Is it just Blue, or (and this is how I interpreted it when I reverted) do all trainers in Gen I have this behavior (or even just other trainers with boss Pokémon such as Gym Leaders/E4)? If it's the latter, then it's not specific to Blue, and imo would be better suited in an article describing NPC AI (if we even have anything like that) than as a trivia point on one specific trainer's page. Even if it's the former, I'd really prefer a definitive source other than "I noticed a pattern" before we add trivia implying that we went through the game's code to confirm it, but I'd probably leave that debate to someone more experienced.--Cold (talk) 02:13, 31 January 2018 (UTC)

TM data for PMD

Hey Cold, I was wondering since you're working on PMD data to a certain extent if you could also look into costs and sell prices for the TMs in the PMD games. Thanks in advance! ht14 23:24, 11 February 2018 (UTC)

I only really have access to Rescue Team (and Super to a much lesser extent) but yeah, I'll see what I can do!--Cold (talk) 00:53, 12 February 2018 (UTC)
