BEFORE YOU COMMENT!!
We don't permit non-pedia discussion around here, so in the best interest of on-topic discussion, if you want to tell me something personal, or just plain off-topic, send me a Personal Message (PM) on the Bulbagarden Forums. Alternatively, send me an e-mail at [email protected]. And although I don't suggest trying to actually talk to me there, you can follow me on Twitter at @MAGNEDETH.

Also, I am a busy guy. There is a whole staff of people that can answer your question, so you don't have to go straight to me with every single question. Alternatively, you may not need to ask anyone anything thanks to our handy FAQ. If something isn't listed there check the manual of style or even the helpful welcome portal likely listed at the top of your talk page.

Hey, rustbucket

I'm out. Thanks for putting your faith in me all those years ago. We had some good times. —darklordtrom 11:50, 31 March 2012 (UTC)

Big decision

So I was asking Kenji if I should add the Romanian names for places, people and Pokémon. She wasn't sure so she redirected me to you. The thing is, appart from episode titles and 80% percent of moves, my dear fellow romanians who dub the english episodes into our language didn't bother to give new names for the 3 "p" things from above. So having this in consideration, people who surf on this site and want to look up names for "p" in other languages they can't suppose that it has the same name in Romanian too. Plus there are also names which are common in other languages, so instead of making a new column for the romanian name, it should be simply put in the same column with the common languages, just like on Ash's page, in the "Names" section. There with German, English, etc. I don't mind adding them for all Pokémon, people and places. Plus, afterall that's what the language box was made for. Well what will it be ?----DJWolfy 07:56, 19 April 2012

I will have to discuss this with other staff members. -- MAGNEDETH 20:32, 19 April 2012 (UTC)
Ok, can I get an aproximate time untill the final decision ?----DJWolfy 20:37, 19 April 2012 (UTC)

Not yet. I am not sure when a decision will be made. -- MAGNEDETH 05:50, 26 April 2012 (UTC)

Ok then, I hope at least in about 2-3 weeks.----DJWolfy 11:56, 26 April 2012 (UTC)

Hello, I have a suggestion

Today (for me at least) on 5/17/20012 Donna Summers died.

Anyways I thought since she sang "The Power of One" for Pokémon 2000, Bulbapedia should do a feature on the song and/or her. Yamitora1 23:21, 17 May 2012 (UTC)

Secret Power - Serene Grace

Pardon me Mr. Editor-in-chief. But I am literally 100% sure that Secret Power isnt affected by Serene Grace and yet the proof I provide is considered unreliable because it is from Smogon. I myself was personally involved in the test, bringing the scenario to light and encouraging investigation into the code by Smogon's xfr, but the post I provided as proof doesnt seem to be enough. How can I provide "reliable" proof? - unsigned comment from V4Victini (talkcontribs)

I actually think Smogon could be used as a reliable source in this situation as I know Smogon does a lot of their own research. However, it is technically against the rules to use info as found from a fansite. Let me think about how we want to handle this. New Project

Okay since this page states to contact a staff member about starting a new project. Could a new project be created to focus on Pokémon events? Pokémon 2000 World Championship

Hi, I tried at first to communicate the Admin Ataro by sending him an e-mail, but he doesn't answer, so I came here

my problem is this: I want to create the article for "Pokémon 2000 World Championship", but this massive block doesn't let me create it, is there any way you can help me?

OK, can you please create the article so then I can write it? --Diablo del Oeste (talk) 04:10, 14 September 2012 (UTC)
That would be against the rules. Users with limited editing are usually not familiar with our rules, policies, and templates, as well as general wiki code. Once you make some normal edits around the site, the ability to create pages will be unlocked to you. -- MAGNEDETH 21:36, 14 September 2012 (UTC)

3D generation

Hi there! First of all, I apologize if you're not the right person to address to, but I figured you might be able to direct me to the right person if that's the case. A few months ago, I raised this issue regarding Generation IV's "fan-coined name", 3D generation. Apparently, it was overlooked; I was wondering if there's anything we can do to make it a bit more proper, or at least get the discussion going. Obviously, it wouldn't be that simple to go and change/add something without a proper agreement on that matter first. Ash Pokemaster (talk) 09:14, 29 September 2012 (UTC)

This would be an issue best brought up for discussion on the forums in the Wiki section. -- MAGNEDETH 02:36, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

Regarding the dad redirect I made.

Let me ask you something, how exactly is that unneeded? Norman is referred to as dad and is your father in Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire.

Now I have nothing against that you deleted the redirect, but I thought that redirect was appropriate, I guess I was wrong. TheBlazikenMaster (talk) 21:54, 2 December 2012 (UTC)

"Dad" is far too general. If someone was looking Ash Ketchum's rarely mentioned but never seen father, that'd be a bit jarring to see Norman. Or what about other people's fathers, like Cedric Juniper, or Byron, or any of the other father's we have pages for (there's more than you think). Dad/Father might be a candidate for a disambig at some point to be honest. A simple redirect won't do it, it's far too general a term. -- MAGNEDETH 02:41, 3 December 2012 (UTC)
Alright, I understand. TheBlazikenMaster (talk) 08:52, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

Hello, I want my user name on this website to be changed to BlazeTheMovieFan, because that's my Internet name.

I have made some major edits by trimming down a trivia on Sidney's page.

So is it possible that my user name could change? Thanks.

About your ads

Hey, Magenedeth. I'm Justin from Zelda Wiki. (I had an account over here but I can't remember the password for the life of me and the "reset password" email refused to send, so I made a new one.) I have a question regarding your advertisements. We're about to implement a new ad system and we wanted to go with something like yours. How do you do your ads? Are they built into the skin? Are they done through javascript? Any help you could give would be appreciated.Justin (Neo) (talk) 17:12, 23 January 2013 (UTC)

Let me change this a bit. I've gotten three ads up, but now I just need to know how you do your ad to the right of the content. If you can't answer my question, perhaps you could point me to someone who could?Justin (Neo) (talk) 18:32, 23 January 2013 (UTC)
Hey Justin! Deth won't be online for at least another 4 hours - at most 8. Archaic, and/or Zhen Lin would be the best people to talk to about ads. It'd be best to email them as opposed to using their talk pages, though. Or if you have them on Skype or Twitter. Good luck! Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 18:39, 23 January 2013 (UTC)
Ah, hello, Jo! I forgot you were active here. Thanks, I just went ahead and emailed Archaic. It's not urgent, considering that we've gotten things pretty stable for now. The user Pumpkinking0192 attacked me and not caring about the rules, said that my edits were quibbles, which I find disrespectful. This is the edit where Pumpkinking0192 offended a fellow user: [[1]] . I hope this will give Pumpkinking0192 the punishment he deserves for being aggresive and disrespectful.--Diablo del Oeste (talk) 08:17, 1 May 2013 (UTC)

And another thing, it can be seen in the very talk page of Pumpkinking0192 that he is prone to attack other users, in his talk page it reads "I sometimes get a little aggressive with my edit summaries", there you have it.--Diablo del Oeste (talk) 08:30, 1 May 2013 (UTC)

I've apologized for the use of the word "quibble", which I intended in a way different from how you understood it. I haven't intended aggression in my tone with you at all, and I'm sorry if you've taken my revisions of your edits personally. Everything I do is meant to improve the text of Bulbapedia, not to offend you. That statement (on my user page) refers to more extreme things like like this, which I've already been chastised for and have been working on avoiding (which I'd like to think I've been successful with for the past few months). I don't believe I said anything like that to you, so please don't assume bad faith in me. Thanks. Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 16:53, 1 May 2013 (UTC)
I think you're both a little in the wrong.
  • Diablo, you should be more careful when reverting edits to make sure you're not removing good edits in large reversions. This would help avoid situations like this entirely. As for his remarks, while unnecessary, they're hardly the worst thing in the world. I would suggest taking such comments a little lighter. It is clear he is upset with your edit, but he also calmly states that he would like to take it to the talk page.
  • Pumpkin, I know you've toned it down, and this is better, but in the end, no snarky comment would be best. A better summary here would be something like "please be more careful when reverting edits because you reverted some constructive ones. we should discuss this on the talk page" (preferably something more grammatically acceptable).
Keep it simple and civil guys, we're just here to make the site a better place. -- MAGNEDETH 03:46, 3 May 2013 (UTC)

Bulbapedia: Webmaster

Hey, Magnedeth. I was wondering if you could look over this page and see if everything looks correct. I wanted to add it to the Bulbapedia mainspace, but I would like to make sure that what is on there is true before adding it as an actual article. --Super goku (talk) 02:07, 26 July 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for doing that. I made a few tweaks, and effectively merged it with the Executive Policymakers page, which, as you can see, it has replaced. Werdnae (talk) 03:01, 27 July 2013 (UTC)
Eh, no problem. I thought I would make the page, but I didn't feel right with just putting it into the Mainspace without talking to anyone about it. In any case, thank you for fixing it up and moving it for me.  :) --Super goku (talk) 15:28, 27 July 2013 (UTC)

Question about the inner machinations of the welcome template

Gonna ask you this since I don't think TTE is gonna respond any time soon.......

As a committee member from the Bleach Wiki, I have come to ask you a mediawiki-based question about the welcome template here. I noticed that in the template, the signature is automatically placed through use of "~~<noinclude></noinclude>~~". Well, I tried to get this to work on some templates over there, but when used, the expected result did not appear, and instead just resulted in 4 ~'s showing up but not replaced by a signature. While typing this message, however, a thought occurred to me (that happens too damn much) that the reason might be because you guys use "subst:" and we don't. Whether or not this is the reason, I'm just looking for a response, because I do somewhat want to make this work over there. Thanks for your time. Schiffy (Speak to me|What I've done) 21:28, 20 September 2013 (UTC)

You do need to substitute the template for that to work. The way it works is that on the template page, the noinclude tags prevent it being parsed as a signature. When it is substituted, it gets inserted without the tags, making four tildes in a row, so it gets parsed as a signature. When the template is called but not substituted, it effectively executes it from the template page without actually transferring it, so while it ignores the noinclude tags, they still exist and break up the sequence of tildes. As a result, without the substitution, it behaves just like on the template page - as two separate pairs of tildes. Werdnae (talk) 05:04, 21 September 2013 (UTC)

Although this issue is known and has been known for about a month now, we still have no idea what is causing it as we have not been able to establish a pattern for it. There's a topic for the issue in the Wiki section of the forums. -- MAGNEDETH 17:41, 30 November 2013 (UTC)

Wondering about...

Hey, I'm fairly new here, and was wondering who to ask regarding this. I happen to own a 1998 KFC Pikachu nightlight that has a microphone. When you clap or hum near it, it lights up. I've been scouring the Internet for information regarding this item, but I can't find mention of it anywhere. Since I have just gained page-creating permissions, and don't know if this is a meaningful subject for a page, I came here for help. Should I have posed this question to the leader of Project Merchandise? YveltalGriffin (talk) 05:44, 21 February 2014 (UTC)

That would go on this page. Not particularly sure where on the page, but we try and group fast food toys together. --SnorlaxMonster 06:08, 21 February 2014 (UTC)

Blaziken Mask / Meyer

There seems to be extremely little on-wiki discussion regarding merging two articles that very clearly are the same person. I mean, if all of the supporting facts don't confirm it (too numerous to list), then the very sight of Meyer's face under the mask at the end of Mega-Mega Meowth Madness! should be the dart in the proverbial bulls-eye. I've made multiple attempts (see at Blaziken Mask, at Meyer, and even at the Editor's Hub with absolutely no response in places (except for one person at each of the first two), and a talk page message to Force Fire also went unanswered.

Should I go ahead and be bold as is the Wiki trademark? The problem is that I don't have the user permission to physically merge pages; I could copy stuff over but edit history would be lost. Both pages ought to now be merged at Meyer and a single history created; I can also add the image at the end of the episode showing his face under the mask. Hoopa page

Hi MAGNEDETH! Hoopa is recently revealed and somewhat you said that my Hoopa page is going tobe put into use. Will it be? Thanks for reading, I hope you reply! Phiraptor28 (talk) 13:39, 10 January 2015 (UTC)

Base total stat 325

Your page User:MAGNEDETH/Pokedex adds a category to Pokémon with a base stat total of 325. I am pretty sure it should not be there and for the life of me I can not figure out how to get rid of it.Rahl 04:38, 17 April 2015 (UTC)

Yea, just leave it go for now. -- MAGNEDETH 02:48, 18 April 2015 (UTC)

Hoopa

Coming to you as the protecting admin.

A concern has been raised by an editor about the Hoopa page being protected to established users only. Can you perhaps answer the user's concern and explain whether the page will be permitted for all users in the future?

Also, of interest to me, Diancie is not protected, and Zygarde is protected (since 2013, protected from page creation to prevent speculation; that's long past now), while Xerneas and Yveltal are unprotected; there is inconsistency here. Since Hoopa is released now in Japan, I think we can allow edits as people in North America can trade for Hoopa now and see what it does. Volcanion in my mind is the only one to now restrict (and it is, you did that one as well). Neither Volcanion or Hoopa are too high-traffic, either; Hoopa came out this month, and it still has only slightly more activity than either May or June, with maybe a few edits at a time at any time regardless of when it is and no edit warring that I have noticed. Can you change my username please in Jass? Thank you. --Altruis でんき 01:14, 26 October 2015 (UTC)

Can I use your tag list and team list as a basis on my userpage?

Creating New Pages

I didn't wanna bug you about this, but how do you create new pages? BiggestPokémonFan (talk) 23:09, 10 May 2016 (UTC)

If you've been autoconfirmed, searching for a page that does not exist should give you an option at the top of the search results to create the page you're looking for. RetroKitty 18:31, 11 May 2016 (UTC)

Ok, thanks! BiggestPokémonFan (talk)

Apology

You probably don't remember this, but I had a bit of a negative attitude you and the wiki's way of doing things back in 2010. I had the displeasure of looking at my Talk page the other day and I don't think I've ever cringed so hard. I apologise for my past behaviour. LordHeinz (talk) 21:00, 21 April 2018 (UTC)

Everyone makes mistakes, especially when we are younger and dumber. I know I had plenty myself. But an apology still goes a long way. Thank you. -- MAGNEDETH 15:23, 30 April 2018 (UTC)

Internal Error?

Uh I got on here today and went to the Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee page, and signed in. Then I got a page that said

[7e1d11dca5d5dbbbfa85f95ca] 2018-9-21 11:54:00: Fatal exception of type "Error"

It also showed once when I was editing this when I scrolled down past the Parser Profiling data. I don't know if you're the right person to ask this, but what does this mean? Did I do something wrong? (I have screenshots if you want, but I don't know how to upload it to Bulbapedia.)

--Mira Zannah (Feel free to yell at me) 12:13, 21 September 2018 (UTC)

No, it was likely a server hiccup. But if the problem persists, I suggest telling Kogoro about it. -- MAGNEDETH 01:35, 22 September 2018 (UTC)

It's a Hard Life

What kind of article was It's a Hard Life? I had the article in my Watchlist so I guess I edited it at some point, but I can't really remember what it was. --Raltseye prata med mej 13:12, 28 May 2019 (UTC)

It was an article about a webcomic, but not a notable one. -- MAGNEDETH 17:08, 28 May 2019 (UTC)
Ah, yeah, makes sense. I had forgotten that I had most of them in my watchlist. Thanks. --Raltseye prata med mej 21:26, 28 May 2019 (UTC)

Sandbox categories

By doing this edit, Tag365 has added categories to the Bulbapedia sandbox. Please undo that because I'm not in the staff. In the sandbox rules, there is Do not remove any sections from the sandbox unless you are the author of that section. Otherwise, only staff members may remove content from this page. --キーコン 15:17, 8 January 2020 (UTC)

Re: PoGO Information

Thanks for deleting those drafts. Most of the "good information" there was already either mainspaced or too outdated. But for expanding on PoGO, one thing I've been trying to get pushed is a much needed updated to Template:Spindata/GO, which lacks a lot of readily-available information that other Pokemon GO sites have, e.g.

  • Maximum CP (including Best Buddy boost)
  • Base Catch/Flee rate
  • New Attack Cost (introduced long after template was created)
  • Utilization of all sprites (gender-differences, Shiny, and costumes)

Anyways, I've been toying with various drafts for a while, and decided on this one - User:TehPerson/Spindata/GO - such that it won't interfere with whatever information is already on the mainspace. And I can just help out manually fill out the new "??" fields (the old base stats for Gen I-III need to be mass-updated anyways). Thanks! TehPerson (talk) 04:26, 2 February 2020 (UTC)

An apology and a question

First, I just wanted to apologize about my past actions when I was 13 and 14 years old back in 2009 and 2010. I was young and dumb and made some pointless hasty decisions and was a pain in the neck, and caused you in particular some headache. As that was half a lifetime ago, at least for me, I'd like to think I've grown a bit as a person and as an editor, but I still regret my past mistakes and ignorance and I do apologize for that.

If it's no trouble, I also wanted to ask you a question. I noticed you are missing from the Executive Staff page. Is there a reason for this, and is anyone else missing? I've noticed you are listed as a former Editor-in-Chief on the Editorial Board page under "Other Executive Staff" but, as far as I can tell, you're the only one missing from the actual Executive Staff page itself, so I thought I'd ask.

And again, thanks for all you do here and thanks for your patience with me over the years. I look forward to continue working with you and the rest of staff and the Bulbapedia community to make this wiki as good as it can be. Sincerely, Landfish7 21:17, 19 September 2022 (UTC)
