Gordie (Japanese: マクワ Makuwa) is the Gym Leader of Circhester's Gym, known officially as Circhester Stadium. He specializes in Rock-type Pokémon. He gives the Rock Badge to Trainers who defeat him. In Pokémon Shield, his mother Melony takes his place as Circhester's Gym Leader instead.

In the games

Gordie is the sixth Gym Leader Galar Trainers face in their Gym Challenge in Pokémon Sword. He is believed to have received his education from his mother, Melony, who was the Gym Leader of Circhester.[1] However, instead of becoming an Ice-type user like Melony did, he chose to use the Rock type due to him admiring that type more and wanting to find his own path to greatness. This resulted in the two falling out after a heated battle, which led to them almost never seeing each other since. There are few Gym Trainers in his Gym due to his strict training style.

As a rising star, many believed he has the potential of becoming the Galar League Champion. Gordie uses Rock-type Pokémon to achieve victory through a refined and graceful battle style, despite the type's rough and unrelenting reputation. He is considered one of the strongest Galar Trainers in terms of popularity and skills. He has a tendency to shut himself away in a locker room when he loses, making it hard to get an interview from him. Most of his fans find this trait to be endearing regardless. He has quite a large fanbase, and he tries his best to make his fans happy by either giving out autographs or hosting events. Currently, there are three photo albums on Gordie that were created by his fanbase.

League Cards

This is a transcript of the back of Gordie's League Cards in Pokémon Sword.

Normal League Card
"Gordie is a young rising star that many suspect will be the Champion someday. Though Rock-type Pokémon are typically known for being rough and unrelenting, Gordie has worked hard to achieve victory through a refined and graceful battle style. He always tries to keep his fans happy and thus is very popular among the audience. On the other hand, he has the surprising tendency of shutting himself away in the locker room when he is defeated, making postdefeat interviews a rarity. This doesn't bother most of his fans, though, and they see this behavior as endearing."
Rare League Card
"Gordie is one of the top Trainers of the Galar region, both in terms of popularity and skill. His strict training style means that his Gym has few Gym Trainers, but he does have quite a fan base. Gordie does his best to make sure his fans are happy, often seen giving out autographs or hosting events. There are currently three photo albums of Gordie, all published through the support of his fan base. This card shows another special photo, taken specifically for this purpose at a photo studio."

Pokémon Adventures

Gordie debuted in PASS15. Unlike in the games, he and Melony share the Circhester Stadium and alternate who acts as its Gym Leader. He was first seen at Circhester Stadium, where he took over Gym Leader duties after a League Staff member informed him that Melony had left the building.

In PASS19, Gordie met Henry Sword and Marvin on Route 8. He challenged Henry to a battle, but due to the latter being busy with work, he had Marvin face Gordie in his place. Their battle was interrupted by Casey, who attacked Gordie after mistaking him for a suspicious person. Once the misunderstanding was cleared up, Gordie passed out from a fever he developed from waiting in the cold for too long. After recovering, Gordie went back to his Gym Leader duties and faced Marnie in a Gym battle, which he lost.

Gordie was introduced as a Supporter card in the Pokémon Trading Card Game during the English Sword & Shield Series (the Japanese Sword & Shield Era). It was first released in the Japanese Skyscraping Perfection expansion before debuting in English in the Evolving Skies expansion, with an illustration based on the take artwork of the character. It was also released as a Full Art card and Secret card in both expansions, with an illustration by Hitoshi Ariga. Piers allows the player to look at the top seven cards of their deck and then reveal any number of Energy card they find there and put them in their hand. The player then shuffles the other cards back into their deck.

Trivia
