Characteristics

Defensively, the Electric-type is fairly well off. Its resistances aren't especially notable aside from Flying, but it has only one weakness, to Ground. Having only one weakness means Electric-type Pokémon can take a few hits while dishing out heavy damage or using stat-boosting moves. However, Earthquake is a very popular and powerful Ground move for Pokémon that focus on Physical moves. Many Electric types can use Magnet Rise, thus giving them temporary immunity to Template:Type2 moves.

Offensively, the Electric-type is also pretty well off. Flying and Water are fairly common types, while all its resistances are rare. Ground-type Pokémon can be covered by a Hidden Power of the right type.

Also, Pokémon like Pikachu can learn the move Grass Knot which applies more damage to heavier foes and, as Ground-types are typically heavy, this should be extremely effective.

When used in contests, Electric-type moves typically become Cool-type, but can also be of the other four Contest types, excluding Tough.

In total, there are 29 Pokémon with the Electric-type.

Trivia

  • The three Electric-type Gym Leaders all have light colored hair. Lt. Surge and Volkner both have blond hair, and Wattson has white hair.
  • In the anime, the Electric-type has had some degree of exclusivity with Ash, as his Pikachu was the only Electric-type Pokémon owned by a main character up until Dawn captured Pachirisu in Twice Smitten, Once Shy.
  • Each Electric-type Gym Leader is seen wearing a military-style outfit; Lt. Surge wears a uniform reminiscent of that of Vietnam soldiers, Wattson wears what appears to be an aviator's jacket, and Volkner wears what appears to be a military uniform similar to that of the dress uniform of Turkish troops.
  • Every generation has introduced Electric-type Pokémon whose names begin with the letters E, M, and P. In fact, the names beginning with E all start with the three letters ele.
  • In Generation III, all damaging Electric moves were of the Cool contest type. The only non Cool move was Charge.
  • There is yet to be a Pokémon with double resistance to the Electric-type, though there are multiple types which do resist it.
  • The sprites of most Electric-type Pokémon flash yellow when they are brought into battle in Pokémon Emerald, Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum.
