Intense sunlight (Japanese: ひざしがつよい Intense sunlight) is a weather condition introduced in battle in Generation II. It was introduced in the overworld in Generation III.
It will last for five turns if created using Sunny Day (eight if the user is holding a Heat Rock) or Drought (Generation VI only). If encountered in the overworld or created using Drought (prior to Generation VI), it will last until replaced.
Description
- When activated
- "The sunlight got bright!"*
- "The sunlight turned harsh!"*
- After turn is complete(only appears before Generation V)
- "The sunlight is strong."
- After five (eight if Heat Rock is held) turns have passed
- "The sunlight faded."

Effects
In battle
Advantages
- Increases the power of Fire-type moves by 50%.
- Allows Solar Beam to be used instantly.
- In Generation V, causes Growth to raise Attack and Special Attack two stages each.
- Activates the following Abilities: Chlorophyll, Dry Skin, Flower Gift, Forecast, Leaf Guard, Solar Power.
- Guarantees Harvest will restore a held Berry.
- Changes Weather Ball to a Fire-type move and doubles its power.
- Changes Castform to its Sunny Form and Cherrim to its Sunshine Form.
- Prevents Pokémon from becoming frozen.
- Causes Moonlight, Synthesis, and Morning Sun to recover ⅔ of max HP (twice the normal amount in Generation II).
Disadvantages
- Decreases the power of Water-type moves by 50%.
- Lowers accuracy of Thunder and Hurricane to 50%.
Variations
Intense sunlight has only one variation. When the sun shines brightly, the screen brightens and dims alternately. The screen may also turn a shade of orange that flows while dark spots ride across.

Trivia
- It can only be found in the overworld in Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Emerald. It is the least common weather condition, only appearing in two games.
