"Prior to the release of Pokémon X and Y..."

FYI, X and Y isn't out yet. --Reliジーランス? 16:55, 18 June 2013 (UTC)

I say hide it until X and Y are released, same with Xavier. --Reliジーランス? 12:35, 19 June 2013 (UTC)

Redirect

Can some kind of redirect get added for Serena without the (game)? I know there's actually a character of the day named Serena but I have a suspicion this page will be searched for a little bit more. Ikarishipper900 (talk) 18:36, 19 June 2013 (UTC)

It now looks like Serena will be a major character in the anime as well, so the character of the day will need their page moving once this is confirmed. Digifiend (talk) 21:13, 11 September 2013 (UTC)

I know this is a bit OT, but shouldn't be Serena(Hoenn) renamed to Professor Serena? Squirtleoshawott461 (talk) 11:16, 20 September 2013 (UTC)

Serena's hair color

Serena's page currently says that her default hair color is brown. However, her picture shows that she's blond. Can someone fix this so it says that her default hair color is blond? --PKMNAdventurer (talk) 02:52, 22 June 2013 (UTC)

Also, her eyes are gray, not brown. --Poliwhirl (talk) 03:05, 28 June 2013 (UTC)
Her NPC appearance shows her with brown hair and eyes. Also, her artwork is with the brown hair, not the blonde. The blonde hair in the game is much paler. Crystal Talian 04:11, 28 June 2013 (UTC)
XY Prerelease character customization XY.png
Left picture is blonde, middle picture is brown (default), right picture is black. The eye color was probably a mistake since I copied Calem's page. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 04:13, 28 June 2013 (UTC)
I think Calem and Serena both have gray eyes.--Poliwhirl (talk) 08:04, 28 June 2013 (UTC)

Korean name for Serena

Her Korean name is 세레나 Serena.

  • It's all the same! -- Nick15 (talk) 00:52, 12 July 2013 (UTC)

Name for PC vs. Name for Rival

As the new trailer showed, her default player name is Yvonne while her rival one is Serena it would seem. Should this page and that of the male character be changed to reflect this? - unsigned comment from Clark Griswald (talkcontribs)

A mistake in her capture tutorial in X & Y

When I was playing both X & Y, during her capture tutorial, the Bunnelby she was catching used Leer on her Fletching and it worked. Fletchling's Big Pecks ability should have prevented that from happening. Is this trivia worthy? --PKMNAdventurer (talk) 23:18, 26 October 2013 (UTC)

Two ideas, both being that Big Pecks might not be its ability. It could be a second ability that we do not know about yet, though unlikely. Otherwise, it could be Gale Wings, unless we can directly see Fletchling's ability. --Super goku (talk) 23:31, 26 October 2013 (UTC)

Other Pokemon owned but never seen in battle

During the course of the game, Serena picks up the fossil you didn't choose as well as one of the remaining Kanto starters. I assume this goes for Calem as well. Shauna got a Kanto starter, too. Is it worth mentioning on their pages that they have these unseen Pokemon? Though I suppose Serena and Calem might never have revived the fossil... Yamiidenryuu (talk) 14:53, 6 November 2013 (UTC)

In the case of the fossil, there's no guarantee that they ever got it revived, so that's probably not worth adding. I don't know about the Kanto starters. Does the game ever make it explicitly clear which of them Shauna and Serena/Calem choose after you choose yours? It could be that they pick them the same way they pick the Kalos starter (Serena/Calem picks the one strong against yours, and Shauna picks the last one), but there's no guarantee there, either (unless I missed something). --AndyPKMN (talk) 01:23, 7 November 2013 (UTC)
No confirmation on which starter the two get, sadly, just that they get one of them. It's kind of a weird situation. Yamiidenryuu (talk) 15:10, 7 November 2013 (UTC)

Default hair style

In the game, is it random? I picked the male character and Serena has a pony tail. Penubag (talk) 02:23, 13 November 2013 (UTC)

Just the NPC design. Ataro (talk) 02:28, 13 November 2013 (UTC)
Wait what? So all NPC Serenas have a pony tail? But if you pick her you can choose the normal hairstyle? Penubag (talk) 04:47, 13 November 2013 (UTC)
...Yes. Ataro (talk) 04:59, 13 November 2013 (UTC)

Father?

In Snowbelle City there's an NPC that mentions having a child around your age that recently left Vaniville Town. In my game (where I chose to play the male character), he says "daughter". If someone can confirm that it is "son" if the player chose the female character, would that be enough to say that he's Calem/Serena's father? Or at the very least put it as trivia?Glik (talk) 05:20, 4 December 2013 (UTC)

iirc, that person also says daughter if you play as the female character. --It's Funktastic~!話してください 05:23, 4 December 2013 (UTC)
Given the color of his skin, it's also likely he's Shauna's father. Also, I hear reports from some people that he can also say his son left, so someone will need to check on that. Either way, it's too speculative. Ataro (talk) 05:30, 4 December 2013 (UTC)
Well, that would be true if Shauna was a boy when you played as a girl. She isn't, so there's no argument against it. Yveltal0003 (talk) 11:12, 13 April 2014 (UTC)
I can confirm that he refers to a "son" when the player's character is female. He can't be Shauna's father. Tiddlywinks (talk) 20:13, 3 August 2014 (UTC)

Names

Maybe I'm overthinking it, but... Coudn't Serena name be an anagram? Both in Japonese and English, if you take the name's letters and put them in order, thei spell "Erneas", Xerneas without the X (It's japonese name is also the same). It doesn't seem intentional, except because Calem is actualy an anagram too (Male C.).Silent Raincloud (talk) 12:20, 4 May 2015 (UTC)

Nope, neither case makes any sense. They are meant to be puns for "calm" (Calem) and "serene" (Serena). Berrenta (talk) 13:29, 4 May 2015 (UTC)

I know the oficial name origins, I was thinking more in a tivia fact.Silent Raincloud (talk) 16:04, 4 May 2015 (UTC)

Data for tag battle against Team Flare grunts

Below is the party data when Serena teams up with the player for a double battle against Team Flare in Glittering Cave. Replace the 3rd Pokemon in the party with whichever starter is strong against the player's initial choice of starter:

The problem with this party is that the movesets of the Pokemon are undefined. This is not a mistake; many other trainers in the game also do not have defined movesets for their Pokemon. I suspect that the game engine will, in this case, populate the 4 "empty" move slots with the 4 most recent level-up moves corresponding to the Pokemon's level, but further research/verification will be needed. Chenzw (talk) 08:17, 27 May 2016 (UTC)

Some gameplay videos suggest strongly that the level-up movelist is being referred to for undefined movesets, and Kaphotics has also commented on this before on Project Pokemon[1]. I will be adding the data to the article shortly. Chenzw (talk) 08:57, 28 May 2016 (UTC)

Similarity with anime and manga counterparts

Is it worth mentioning in the trivia section that Serena has a similarity with her anime and manga counterparts, that they all have an Eeveelution in their parties? Serena uses either Vaporeon, Jolteon, or Flareon depending on your starter while both her counterparts have a Sylveon. --PKMNAdventurer (talk) 04:06, 12 June 2016 (UTC)

No.
They are the same character, but it's also different canons. The creators can decide to keep almost everything the same or only a bit the same, it's entirely up to them, and no matter which way it falls there's not really anything unexpected/noteworthy about it. Tiddlywinks (talk) 04:20, 12 June 2016 (UTC)

Father? (revived)

The previous talk about Calem/Serena's father never seems to have reached a conclusion. To me, it's a no-brainer. The man clearly mentions a kid of his who's about the same age as the player and set off from Vaniville Town recently, while also using gender pronouns opposite to the player character's gender. Could this be called confirmed? --FinnishPokéFan92 (talk) 07:08, 1 August 2018 (UTC)

Plus, Professor Sycamore also mentions that Calem/Serena is the child of a Veteran Trainer, and the male individual mentioned above uses the male Veteran overworld model. Shouldn't this seriously be enough of an evidence? --FinnishPokéFan92 (talk) 18:04, 1 August 2018 (UTC)
If someone can confirm that his child's gender is the opposite of the player's gender also in the Japanese version, then he's definitely the rival's father.--Den Zen 19:08, 1 August 2018 (UTC)
Excellent. Is there anyone in here who can understand Japanese and has a Japanese version of the game, or at least knows one who does and is able to ask them? --FinnishPokéFan92 (talk) 04:27, 2 August 2018 (UTC)
I found these two videos, one with a male player and the other with a female player, which both feature the dialogue with this NPC in the Japanese version of the game. I don't understand Japanese though so if someone who does could translate them that'd be great.

Move

I suggest moving this page from "Serena (game)" to simply "Serena" (which is currently a short disambiguation page).
