Romanization
For consistency, please put given names in front when romanizing Japanese names. (Romanization of Korean and Chinese names can be left in their original order). In addition, please use macrons when indicating long vowels, which you can find in the character palette below. That said, we highly appreciate your work in adding the romanizations. Keep up the good work! --超龍「Chao」 01:08, 21 April 2016 (UTC)
- Thank you for the info! I will be sure to do that next time. By the way, I wonder if you might be able to shed some light on User_talk:Tiddlywinks#Miscrediting_of_anime_animation_directors? There has been no reply yet, and I am not sure if it's a case of "not replying because I don't know" or "not replying because waiting for input from higher-ups/EB". Chenzw (talk) 02:39, 21 April 2016 (UTC)
- The current answer I have is that there we have no clear policy. I half intended to reply by the end of tonight if there was no other answer and half thought to just reply already a while ago (but I didn't manage to (obviously, perhaps)). Tiddlywinks (talk) 03:01, 21 April 2016 (UTC)
- I see, thank you for the response! I will leave the episode pages as they are (as already one other editor has disagreed with my removal) for now. Chenzw (talk) 03:03, 21 April 2016 (UTC)
- We've decided to go the simple route: only plain animation directors should fill the animation director parameters, not assistants or executives or what-have-you. Tiddlywinks (talk) 03:21, 21 April 2016 (UTC)

Please be very careful about jumping hastily to unwarranted conclusions... Just to ask: how much do you actually know about Japanese? Because Asahi Production should be a plainly problematic translation of 宮城白石スタジオ. Don't just Google it and just assume the first thing you can connect it to is right. If you had looked around Asahi's home page, either in the page title or several places in text, you would have seen 旭プロダクション which is clearly the Japanese for that name. If you absolutely cannot figure out how it should be translated and there's that much of a difference, please just ask someone for a second opinion.
(Also, both with this 宮城白石スタジオ and the previous はだしぷろ, you made a typo with the names. I'm not sure what advice to give you, but just try to be careful about more typos.)
Thanks. Tiddlywinks (talk) 05:03, 22 April 2016 (UTC)
- Sorry, please forgive the earlier oversight. I will be more careful next time. Next time there is something which is problematic, which would be a better approach for me to take? To just create a romanization template with the un-romanized characters, or to not transclude the romanization template in the staff page and look for someone else to see to it? Chenzw (talk) 05:11, 22 April 2016 (UTC)
- Like I said, you can always ask someone. If you don't get a response by the time you're done with everything else, you can just write it in untemplated for the time being.
- Also, I have to ask... Why did you put this? Tiddlywinks (talk) 05:16, 22 April 2016 (UTC)
- I was really not sure about that one. What I did for that one was infer 太田 from another geographical location with name Ōta, and join it with 都 (と).
- I am really sorry for the inconvenience my edits have caused. If you think it is necessary, I will refrain from creating the romanization templates and just input the kanji into the anime staff pages. Chenzw (talk) 05:22, 22 April 2016 (UTC)
- For 太田 都, you should have realized, you were already writing it like a name (last first, with a space between), so you really shouldn't have ended up with one word.
- You don't need to stop. Just be careful. Learning often means making mistakes. If you can learn from them, then I'm happy. Just for my edification, I guess, though, I am still wondering, how much do you actually know about Japanese? You seem to be handling most of what you're doing well enough, but some of these slip ups just make me have to wonder. Tiddlywinks (talk) 05:28, 22 April 2016 (UTC)
- My knowledge of Japanese is not great, lower than ja-1, but not exactly ja-0 either. Many years back, l picked up Japanese as a third language for a while, but since my country is not a ja speaking country, and there are not many opportunities to use the language, my proficiency is really not there anymore. Because my other language is zh-N, and Kanji shares many similarities (and the character set) with Chinese characters, I tend to use Chinese character input as a method for inputing Kanji. The 宮 and 宫 was my fault at not verifying the characters properly. I am really sorry about the recent mistakes! Chenzw (talk) 05:35, 22 April 2016 (UTC)
- Can I ask as well, then, what's your process generally for determining how a (Japanese) name should be romanized? Tiddlywinks (talk) 05:37, 22 April 2016 (UTC)
- I have a dictionary nearby for conversion of common kanji characters to hiragana, and also sometimes check some of the textbooks that I still have. Once I have them, I "merge" the reading to form a name, and to be sure, look up the romanized variant online to see if there have been any prior animation credits. Chenzw (talk) 05:43, 22 April 2016 (UTC)
- I see. I don't know if I have much advice to add on top of that... It may be useful at some point to just try putting the kanji through a Japanese name dictionary. My go-to dictionary is always WWWJDIC. If you click on the drop-down list, the second entry is for names. Of course, there's a lot of options oftentimes, and I don't know how to tell you what's correct (like 中野裕紀, I wouldn't lay bets on what the first name really is), but maybe it can at least help you avoid some mistakes. Main image of Ash's Noivern
Hey there. I have a favor to ask you. Do you think you can upload a brighter picture of Ash's Noivern, please? I'm asking because the picture of it right now is a bit darker because of the gray clouds. Thanks. Seabiscuit2020 (talk) 04:00 May 16, 2016 (UTC)
- Its next major appearance in XY116 happened to have a good shot, so I have grabbed that one. It may take some time for the old image to expire from the CDN. Please let me know again if there's anything else I can help with. Chenzw (talk) 14:39, 15 May 2016 (UTC)
- We need pictures of Ash's Pikachu and Dawn's Piplup using Thunder Whirlpool from the 12th movie, Ash's Treecko using Spinning Descent Pound, Sanpei's Frogadier using Frubbles, and Ash's Grovyle using Spinning Leaf Blade. Seabiscuit2020 (talk) 05:41 June 1, 2016 (UTC)
Your Screens
Hello Chenzw,
I have seen that you have uploaded those screenshots .
File: Battle_Maison_arena.png
Can you tell me how you created this ? --Ryuichi (talk) 10:54, 11 July 2016 (UTC)
- Hi, I have earlier described the process on my Archives talk page. You can take a look over there. Something you might want to know is that there are some models which Ohana3DS cannot render well, so I have used Maya for those. Chenzw (talk) 03:08, 12 July 2016 (UTC)
- The model itself and the textures are in separate files; you will need to open the corresponding texture file separately (and even then some models have textures scattered across multiple files). On some occasions, the model simply doesn't render well in Ohana3DS, and you will need to use the -rebirth version (compiled from source code). There are, to the best of my knowledge, no video tutorials available–I am sorry, but you will have to do some research by yourself. Chenzw (talk) 10:55, 12 July 2016 (UTC)
