History

Bastiodon and Rampardos

Prior to the start of the series Byron revived Bastiodon from an Armor Fossil and evolved Shieldon into a Bastiodon. Bastiodon first appeared in Ancient Family Matters!, where Byron used it to battle against his son Roark and his Rampardos. Roark starts the fight by having Rampardos repeatedly using Zen Headbutt, which is counted by Bastiodon's Iron Defense. Bastiodon then goes on the offense and uses Flamethrower, which is dodged. Rampardos attacks with a powerful Head Smash, which Bastiodon combats with Iron Head. At a standstill the two attack with Flamethrower and Flash Cannon. Rampardos begins to show signs of fatigue, but an alarm goes off in the gym, causing the battle to be called off.

The alarm is revealed to be caused by Team Rocket, who have stolen the Fossils from the Gym. Byron and Roark team up and have Bastiodon and Rampardos attack the mecha Team Rocket is using, but the attacks cause no damage. Meowth begins to throw chunks of earth at them, causing the two to retreat. Bastiodon steps in and takes the attacks, allowing Rampardos to attack the machine. Worried that they may not survive much more Team Rocket attempts to flee, only to be hit by Bastiodon and Rampardos. The attack creates an opening for Ash's Pikachu to use Thunderbolt, destroying the machine.

In Dealing With Defensive Types!, Bastiodon is used as Byron's last Pokémon in his Gym battle against Ash, fighting against his Chimchar. Wanting to end the battle quickly Ash has Chimchar use Flamethrower. Bastiodon stands its ground and uses Iron Defense to handle the attack and then uses Metal Burst to send the damage back, knocking Chimchar out. It next faces his Gliscor, who starts the battle with Steel Wing from behind, which Bastiodon counters with Iron Defense. It then tries Fire Fang, only to be countered by Flash Cannon. While recovering Bastiodon goes on the offense and strikes with Iron Head multiple times. Although weakened Gliscor manages to get close enough to Bastiodon to grab on to it from behind, allowing it to use consecutive Fire Fangs. Bastiodon shakes it off and attacks with Flash Cannon, but it misses when Gliscor uses its tail to knock Bastiodon over. Bastiodon manages to hit the Fang Scorpion Pokémon with another Iron Head, but is finally defeated when Gliscor gets behind it again and uses Fire Fang.

It was seen in flashbacks in Mastering Current Events! and League Unleashed!.

Bastiodon also appeared alongside Byron during the credits of Zoroark: Master of Illusions.

Personality and characteristics

Like most of its species, Bastiodon is incredibly defensive, able to withstand many attacks, even having the upper hand in battle against Rampardos, a highly offensive Pokémon. It is Byron's favorite Fossil Pokémon and as a result is his most trusted teammate.
