In the core series games
Thorton is the Frontier Brain of the Battle Factory in the Sinnoh and Johto regions. It is suggested he is very intelligent, as he mentions inventing a machine that analyzes the player's Pokémon. If he is defeated he will hand over the Factory Print.
Pokémon
Thorton uses three Pokémon from this list:
These Pokémon have fixed IVs of 12 when fought as the 21st battle of the streak and IVs of 31 when fought as the 49th battle of the streak.
- If Thorton appears as the 21st battle of a streak, his Pokémon are selected from the first listed variant of the species. Thorton will not use any Legendary Pokémon.
- If Thorton appears as the 49th battle of a streak, his Pokémon are selected from the fourth listed variant of the species. Legendary Pokémon may be any variant.
Due to a bug in all Japanese and English versions of Pokémon Platinum, Thorton will incorrectly use the opposite battle set for the 49th battle of the Lv. 50 challenge and the 21st battle of the Open Level challenge.[4] This issue is not present in all other language versions of Platinum, nor any language of Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver.

Pokémon Adventures

Thorton first appears along with his fellow Frontier Brains, Palmer, Dahlia, and Argenta in a meeting; afterward they go back to their facilities. Thorton later appears at his facility, the Battle Factory, where he watches Platinum battle through it. Eventually, Platinum manages to get enough wins to allow her to challenge him and they begin battling.
Due to the rules of the Battle Factory, the two use rental Pokémon to Battle each other instead of their own Pokémon. Despite Thorton having much confidence in his battling skills and knowledge, Platinum proves superior to him in both categories, allowing her to defeat him. Angered at his defeat, Thorton throws a temper tantrum until Argenta snaps him out of it by slapping him in the face.
Later, he is given a Team Galactic camera robot that Riley obtained on Iron Island and is tasked with fixing it. Eventually, he succeeds, but is left exhausted in the process.
