The Sandsear Cave (Japanese: 熱砂の空洞 Hot Sand Hollow) is a type of hideaway seen in the Grand Underground. It can only be accessed after the player obtains the Explorer Kit in Eterna City from the Underground Man, and features Pokémon that roam the cave freely, instead of being found in tall grass.
Geography
Sandsear Caves are arid, sand and rock filled caverns, containing small lakes of lava. Some rocks are taller than the player, and must be navigated around, as well as the various pools of lava.

After the player fulfills a particular objective during their adventure, another group of Pokémon are added to the pool of possible encounters. The spawn rates for certain types are influenced by the active "Statue Effect" applied by a player's Secret Base Statues.
